View Full Version : Door Sill Trimming - Riddle Me This

I suspect that my 289 body may not get trimmed the same way as the MkIV (actually, I'm fairly certain of this based on the lower valence issue I and others have had).

Today's question relates to the door openings. I have a flange on my door openings that does not appear in the instruction manual. If I look at the manual, it appears that the door aluminum butts up against the body, and the fiberglass edge is finished off with a piece of the C trim.

Here is what I have:

The body comes up, then takes a 90 degree turn into the cockpit. This causes interference with the door hinges, door aluminum, etc.

I believe that I need to cut back the area that is hatched in the picture. If so, how far up do I take it on the front:

And how far up on the back?

If anyone can share some similar photos of their door openings, it would be helpful.

Thanks,
Chris

Pretty sure that's how its supposed to be. I do trim it so that its about 1/2 wide so the trim fits over it.

On the Mk4 roadsters I clean them up to make the flange width consistent and smooth the raduis but do not eliminate it altogether.

EDIT: found an in process photo that kind of shows the flange---

Yep. I like the 1/2 inch.
