This past March, we built an all-new Gen 3 Type 65 Coupe-R with the crew from Snap-On Tools here at Factory Five. The build was for their show "From the Ground-Up" and features our new Coupe along with Ford's awesome new 5.2L Aluminator 52XS 580 HP crate engine based on the Voodoo engine, but with a conventional cross plane crank. Check out episode 1 below where they kick-off the build. A new installment in the four-part series debuts over the next few weeks on Thursday.

In episode 4 of Snap-on Tools' series "From the Ground Up," NASCAR driver Joey Logano drops the hammer on the brand-new Coupe at Charlotte Motor Speedway! During the filming, it rained non-stop and the producers asked if the car could still run. What resulted was some serious mayhem in the rain. Logano loved the car, and rumor is that the car will be featured in an upcoming television show with Jory Logano driving it full on race pace in the dry.

Hi all, and wow, this car looks great.
So I am quite liking the colour selected, may I ask what red is that?
Thanks

This is the point where I ask the stupid question. If someone were looking to write a check, how much would it cost to duplicate this build?

Just estimating here, but I think the driveline would probably be $20K
Kit $22K
Paint $5-10K
Wheels and tires $2K
Aero package $3K
Misc $2K
And you do all the labor.

I think we estimated $65 to $70K with all the specialty stuff, like dry sump, fuel cell, and air jacks. That's including the paying for paint but nothing for build labor.

Jim's numbers match my experience.

Oh man, I don't need a dry sump, or a fuel cell, or air jacks....I need to finish the 818 before I start dreaming up the next project!!!

I don't see the air jack mounts as an option in Coupe R build sheet. How much would that run? And exactly which jacks did you guys use?

Jim Schenck or Dave Lindsey, can someone at FF please provide the width and offset or backspace for those wheels? Was it standard suspension geometry? Any spacers? Thanks in advance!

The wheels are a Volk ZE40 (made by Rays wheels) 18x11 with a +15mm offset all around, but they require a 1 inch hub centric bolt-on spacer in the rear. The geometry on that car is all stock with the low ride height mounting holes being used.
As far as air jack they are from Allstar Performance, we don't have the mounts on the chassis as an option as they are a special threaded collar that comes with the jacks that needs to be welded to the chassis. If you are considering using them my recommendation is to get the lower height ones, ours are the taller ones and the operation is not always as smooth as we would have liked.

Is the 1" spacer to just push the wheels out or was there going to be an interference otherwise? If an interference, with what?
I was looking at those exact wheels, specs and everything, even before the R was launched and the videos came out. If you ever decide to switch to a different setup, I'd be interested in buying them from you :)

With a 295 tire you could run the wheels with no spacer but you would have a lot of fender well showing before you get to the tire. With a wider or taller tire and no spacer you start interfering with the tube that protects the outside corner of the seat.

Jim,
Would 9" of lift be enough stoke length to lift the type-65 off the ground completely? I ordered A/P racing jacks last fall, but the lead time for the 310mm stoke length has been ridiculous. I can get 230mm models today. Would they work? Also, do you think a 3-point / tripod setup feasible with this frame? If so, where would you recommend placing the rear jack mounts?
Thanks!

I didn't see your question before posting in the other thread but short answer is I prefer the shorter ones but would definitely stick with 4 of them. We have had them stick from time to time and if we had only 3 that would've made it a bigger issue.
