View Full Version : Grill, ac condenser and radiator stack, not enough. Room?

There isn't enough room on the lower grill mounts for the ac condenser mounts, and the radiator (crossways, side to side). The radiator alone doesn't move therefore there isn't enough room for the ac brackets between them. Did y'all just grind down the radiator mounts at the peak of the bend to make it all fit? Mainly on the bottom where it's the thinnest.

Check out my 2 build threads. Hopefully the pictures will be a help.

Thanks, Wallace. They may have helped a little. It. Mine still isn't going quite as easy as it seems it should. Lots of parts to drill and all line up perfectly in the end.

I made up four spacers out of 1/2" aluminum to make up for the A/C condenser, they gobetween the grill and radiator mounting tabs, had to get longer screws. I still ground out a little of the cross brace on the grill I think for a little extra room. I think the A/C kit comes with spacers if you buy it though FFR.

Got it. Had to open up the bolt holes in everything a little and trim some aluminum here and there. Still have to clearance a little more when I take apart for condenser to not barely touch the cross bar. I've been working on that stack for 8 hours total now. Time to take a break. I'll mount it all up Friday maybe or next week. It definitely wasn't like the instructions said. That didn't work. Was like trying to assemble a hamburger by starting with the mayonnaise. I ended up laying the grill down, and working my way up. I fit the condenser to it and got the brackets fitting, then payed the radiator on top of that and worked on getting those holes to work. After all said and done.

There's one person on this site trying to install a new GM LT4 that requires a low temp radiator for the supercharger, ahead of the AC condenser. Bet that's going to take some creative thinking.

I read that somewhere. I'm sure it's doable but I wouldn't go that route. If I do do the whipple (which needs and ltr also), I'll mount it underneath with a separate fan.

I can't imagine anywhere in the car where you could find 3-5 inches of depth for an LTR and a fan. To place an LTR in front of the condenser might require abandoning the FFR grille mounting bracket and hood hinge, but at least the LTR would be located where it's supposed to be. If the size of the LTR would be inadequate, then the car isn't suited to a supercharger.
