Back to Work on the Coupe!

Now I remember why I stopped working on this for a while. Not really, but here is what I have to figure (re-figure) out: Gen 2 Coupe, IRS - and battery box.

So now I figure I need to move the battery to the front, at the passenger side.

This should work, right? I have a 302 and T5. Should be do-able, others have done this - right?

Talk to Mark at Breeze and see if his front mount battery tray will work for you. I suspect it will.

And if that doesn't work, check out the box I built for a group 51 battery. It is about the last post in my build thread. You could bond together something similar with Lord Fusor, rather than tig weld it. My box ended up flush with the bottom of the frame rails. If needed, I would build one for you.

Thanks for your kind offer, I may take you up on that if I run into trouble. But - I think I have a solution and will build a battery box "frame" and mount a Group 51 battery in the front. I visited the local Pep Boys and that battery looks perfect for our cars.

Not sure where you are running into a fitment issue. I have a gen II coupe with the new IRS and I mounted a FFMetals battery box into the same location. You can access the drain plugs from the under side. To fill I used a section of hose to get me far enough away to pour from the bottle. Don't give up on the rear placement...IT FITS. It gets even tighter with the fuel cell and fuel line components. Enjoy!

OK -thanks for the encouraging words. My original plan was to keep the engine bay as clean as possible. I will take another look. I may expand on your hose to fill idea: Maybe add a fitting going into the fill port, connect it to a hose, and add a fill port on the rear deck. Interesting, eh? This way my existing battery box will not have to go to the scrap or recycle bin.
