I am trying to finish up everything needed to get my first start behind me. Yesterday I went ahead and filled the power steering with fluid. I then turned back and forth to clear the air from the system. All worked fine until the air appeared to be gone. Now it turns left fine, but is almost impossible to turn to the right. If I kind of bump it to the right in small increments it will turn. My thought is I may have a bad rack. Anything that I may be missing? The rack was part of my initial order from FFR.

I just had to replace my rack and here is what I did to get the air out

remove the belt from the power steering pump
remove the return line from the bottom of the pump and put the end into a large catch pan
cap off the return on the bottom of the pump
you can now spin the pump pulley by hand while refilling the pump
turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times
keep checking the catch pan to see if all the air bubbles are out
the fluid should come out clear - not foamy
plan on using about 2qts of oil to fully bleed out the system

that's what I did and the rack is working well - no buzz

In my case I had to replace the rack as I blew out the pressure line out of the rack threads and all!
I think I made the mistake of tightening the line down too tight when I replaced the hose. Only need to tighten it to about 20ft lbs and the connection should move freely.
Which is contrary to what I thought ... so I put a long wrench on it and tighten it down - really tight! Then a few weeks later went racing at Indy... blew the hose right out of the rack!

Please make sure you have the line hooked up correctly on the rack. The pressure line from the pump goes to the lower fitting on the rack, the upper fitting is the return,
