I must be missing something - either parts or the thought pattern.

I am converting from a depowered rack to a new FFR manual 18:1 rack. I have the manual steering adapter but I dont see how this matches up.

The rack input shaft is splined 9/16". The adapter has one side splined 9/16" and other is 3/4" diameter with two flat sides. The lower U-joint is 3/4 splined.

Am I correct that I need a different lower u-joint? If there is a 9/16" splined U-joint, where does the adapter go?

Thanks, Mike

Well, the official word is "you can't get there from here". Apparently, the manual rack cannot be installed on a gen 1b coupe without creating a specificunique steering shaft using third party parts. I touched base with Mark Reynolds to discuss options. I suppose one option is to go to a new de-powered rack or maybe its time to think about power boost.

Nothing will happen in time for this weekend autocross, so I guess I'm re-installing the old one for now.

Hi, Steve:
Where did you get the lower U-joint?

FFR sells the correct lower U-joint as part of the recent kits but does not sell it as a single item for Gen 1 or 1b. However, Breeze does sell them so, although initially frustrating, the solution is pretty simple.

Thanks, Mike

I just went through this on a Mark 2. Call Dan at Factory Five and ask him for the U joints for a Hotrod. that's what he supplied me. Then you will need a piece of double D shaft which they carry as well.
