Hi i picked up my stage1 33 h hotd last week. I cant seem to find posts about the regisration process on the forums. I thought i saw them here before. Anyway im a little concerned how strict are they with paperwork on the rear. i was goin to buy a rear off craigslist but the guy said he had no vin for it, is a bill of sale enough? also im getting a ford 347 400 hp engine built from a guy in texas im not sure if he has a big shop or not is a bill of sale enough to prove worthy. Last im buying a t5 Hd tranny off a salvage on ebay again is a receipt enough. Im just worried to run into problems. any feeback is appreciated

The best advice I can give you is call Tom Noonan at DMV (518-474-5282, selection 4), he is very helpful and will walk you though the process. Ask him for the application pacakge also, it has all the forms you will need to fill out. Don't take this process for granted, they can and will confiscate any part you don't have proper paperwork for (trust me on this).
Where about are you located?

I'm up by Saratoga. Downsate you have some more restrictions for emissions, not sure but I think you need at least cats.

Paul,
I'm from Long Island, and was building Hot Rod #36. I didn't get anywhere near the registration process before I had to sell it, but I do know you are going to have to through emissions testing. I was told you had to meet the emissions requirements of the year of the engine and have the corsponding emissions equipment. I was using a 1967 289, so the item I needed was a PCV valve. I have seen other posting where people have stated that where the emissions would be based on the block production range. For example, If you had 302, since they first started producing them in 1968, (even though you had a more recent 302) you could go through the testing procedure with the 1968 standards. I do not know if this is true or not, call Tom N at the DMV, he definitely the person to talk to.
