View Full Version : Aluminum spats

I bought some aluminum spats from Very Cool Parts but I have some fitment concerns, despite Wayne's reassurance.

They don't match body contours fully and need to be forced to fit, by bending around half inch. Wayne assures me that silicon and clamping overnight will be enough to hold it in place permanently. I'm not so sure. It takes a little force to bend them to match the contours. So wondering if others have installed these? Did yours need bending to hug the curve? Does silicone hold it?

Thanks
Ian

Ian,

As you know I have the very same spats and had similar concerns which is why it took me about a month to install them. I search a lot of threads and saw a number of pics and decided I wanted button heads to hold them on. Sure it's three holes thorough the body but so what? I also added some double-sided tape on the back. The button head screws look perfect (used same size as was used on scoop).

Thanks Kyle. Do you have a close up pic showing how they look?

Thanks Dale. They look good with the SS bolts. Think that's what I will do.

I bought mine from a different supplier, but like much of the build... "some assembly required." I cut them down a bit, reshaped them slightly, then installed them with stainless button head screws.

Contact info for the supplier of those spats?

Thanks,

John

Here are mine with three button head cap screws. These were made by a forum member. Unfortunately I don't think he is making them any more. Scott

I will be happy to buy them, should you decide you are not happy with installation options.

Those were made by a guy named Brian who used to sell them on the ffcars forum. He stopped making them years ago, unfortunately, but there are others out there that are close. All will need some form of trimming or fitting to make them look really good, though.

What's the black behind the spats?

It's a black vinyl upholstery piping. It does a good job of making sure the spats don't dig into the body and keeping dirt out. Scott

Hey Fred, Did Wayne say he had them in stock for the Mark 4? Talked to him last week and he said it would be some weeks before he made up another batch.
