Hey Gang,

The Go-Dad-Go Chevy Cobra Came To Life Today!
I had some medical delays, the worst was severing my left pinkie and boogering up my ring and middle fingers as well, so that is why we've had a delay getting to our 1st start.
The good news is that I'm on the mend plus I can still count to 10 when I'm fully clothed, 20 with my shoes off and 21 when I'm in the shower. (Yea!)
Anyway, we are really thrilled to post these three videos showing that you really can stuff a Small Block Chevy with a 6-speed transmission in a Factory Five MK-4 Roadster.
So far we've put about 3-4 miles on our High Powered Go-Kart and the police have yet to arrive at Camp Go-Dad-Go!
The mufflers in the video are just to knock the sound down until we get to the next phase of the project.

There will be no Bowtie Badges on the exterior; however, I am thinking about putting 383 emblems above the louvers, but no other badging.

Man, was it fun to tool around the house since the car has been ready to roll since March.

That sounds like a good idea with the badges above the louvers. Check out billet badges.com. They could make you some pretty awesome custom pieces if you are interested.

EdwardB suggested the same vendor so it sounds like you guys have a solution for me.
I'll contact them to see about doing something that looks period correct that also works without overstating the drive line.
Thanks Again!

Hey, we are all minorities now a days! These cars are unique and each one is special. No two are the same. Owners seem to celebrate their differences under the FF5 umbrella and I can't wait to start building...my kit will be picked up July 1 by Stewart Transport! Congrats on something rare, special and fantastic!

Sounds good Steve! Congrats on getting her out there. My wife had her pinkie severed as well, in her case by one of our dogs but had a hand surgeon sewn it back on. All happened down in Virginia Beach when I was working with the Navy. She calls it her Franken finger.

Again congrats!

Hey Gang,

Thanks for the feedback and for checking out our videos so in the Spirit of Father's Day I wanted to share the rest of the story and why we ordered our MK-4 Roadster.

My better half and I went on a cruise, the first week of November 2014, to celebrate my wife's Half-O-Hundred (50th) birthday. I had been drooling over building a Factory Five for years, but didn't think I could swing the expense.

Before we left the house to start our little trip I was looking at the Factory Five Fall Sale and commented to my better half, "Who Extends A Sale To End On November 10th?" That day was my Father's Birthday, it was also the day that I had asked my wife out for our 1st date, she was only 16, and it also happened to be the day that we were returning from our cruise.

We boarded the ship, got things settled in our cabin and went up to the fly bridge to see our vessel shove off. When we got up to our favorite departure spot we looked over to see the Port of New Orleans Fireboat in the middle of the river giving us a very proper send off. What a special day that was because my father designed that fireboat, which was one of his favorites.

When we saw the General Roy Kelley my wife looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, "You've Got To Order Your Car!"

My Dad passed away in early 2002, but the General Roy Kelley is still in service today which can be viewed in the attached video:

Bagdad Bob,

We've put about 10 miles on it so far and the power is way over the top for such a light weight vehicle.
The combination was originally intended to go in my 1980 Z/28 (Lost In Hurricane Katrina 2005) so the power is a bit intimidating in such a light car.
I'm just glad they've found their way to a really spectacular new home after nearly a dozen years.

Steve

PS: I'll make sure that we have plenty of Graham Crackers and Hershey Bars on hand to properly complement those Marshmallows.

I was working on my brother's Mecham Trans Am (#9 of 20 produced that year #1 of #1 bored sleeved and stroked to 427 CID) changing a window regulator. The regulator was locked in the vice when it slipped and snapped nabbing my pinkie, ring and middle fingers.

While my abilities are limited at this point in time, and being left handed is not a plus right now, I'm thankful that I am progressing. It make me think of our Service Men and Women and Law Enforcement Folks who have given so much to keep us safe and free.

Steve and I have discussed and commiserated about his wounded pinkie at great length offline. Thankfully he's healing well :) He's still LOTS smarter than me---I've cut the same finger off twice. Yeah, you heard that right

Yep - I've seen it first hand and he did a number on it, but was very blessed to have skilled medical attention. While I know it's killing him not being able to work on the Cobra more, I'm sure his lovely wife is finally getting him to take of what he can around the house!!

I give Steve tons of crap for his Chevy, but if you ever get to see the build live you will know that it is top quality and may make you forget about the brand.

Oh I forgot about the brand long ago, and don't object to whatever he or anyone else wants to put in one---I just like to give Steve a hard time simply for the sport of it (and because he likes giving it back) ;)

Steve-

WOW, that had to hurt! I am pleased that it wasn't worse, and that you are healing. I know it can be frustrating being forced to wait -- or at least slow down -- working on the car, I have a hunch you will be back at it with a vengeance soon!

I look forward to your next updates, and seeing what lies in store for the Chevy bandit... Get well Steve!

The wind and rain are not all that bad; however, the Wind Driven Tide has become a bigger issue to deal with ever since Katrina. (August 2005)
Our normal Lunar High Tide is at 6:00 PM tonight, but the range is only about 7-9 more inches so right now we've got about 12" left before the water gets the slab under the house.
At this point the streets are now flooded, the Cobra and wife's Challenger have been jacked and our other cars have been moved to higher ground.
We are just doing our normal pick up of the workshop routine and watching for snakes, specifically Water Moccasins aka the The Cotton Mouth.

Good job, a the true cobra was born (can of worms), or at least what Shelby would have built if GM hadn't turned him down. Just finishing an old school SBC 400 shp 4.125 bore. A mild build, around 500HP for my 33. It must be great to bring one of these creatures to life. Can't wait.

TomH33,

Thanks-O-Million!
Just be careful with that 33 since it will be powered by a 400 SBC, which I believe will have a lot more horsepower than my car.
Though I don't know what the horse power is for my 383, I suspect that is some place between 420-440 range, but maybe a tad more or less.
My engine and transmission specs are on my profile if you want to compare notes.

It's a (Fake) 3" Flowmaster Super 10 Style Single Chamber Muffler that I got off of E-Bay for around $40.00 per pair.
They knock the sound down enough to be tolerable because the car is over the top obnoxious without them.
If they were going to be a permanent part of the car, I'd have purchased (Real) Flowmasters.
The model number was PER-101.
