I drove my almost finished car to work last week. Several of my coworkers had been asking me to do it as they had been following my build. I work third shift as a network administrator so when the day shift guys were coming in a few of the car guy came by to ask questions and make compliments. One "non car guy" asked if it was a MG or something. Somewhat at a loss for words I explained it was a replica of a 1965 427 Shelby Cobra. I got the deer in the headlight response. Enough said. My supervisor who witnessed the interaction said it looked like I wanted to punch the guy in the mouth. I think I was more dumbfounded than anything else.
Some of the car guys asked when I was leaving as they wanted to hear the engine and ask questions. When I left and got to the parking lot there was 10-12 guys there looking at my car. The questions started and I did my best to answer them. Starting the car and raising the hood brought more compliments and questions. You know the usual questions, paint color, engine size and HP, transmission, how long building, and so on. Of course there is the how much did it cost question. I tell them more than I will admit too, then I go on to explain about the complete kit cost and it goes up from there. The compliments made me feel really good about the time and expense during the build.
Right now I just want to drive the car and shake out any teething problems. I will finish the car this fall when I am sure I will not have to pull the body to fix something. I will post pictures when I graduate 7995.
