Gonna use Mike's one-piece radiator aluminum rather than the three-piece set that FFR provides. Would also like to use an oil cooler. With the FFR radiator aluminum, the front piece that supports the oil cooler is riveted at the back to the radiator and in the front to the body. Mike's design is a little different in that it's supported by the body in the front but not physically attached. Now that I have the oil cooler ready to install I'm a little surprised by how heavy it is (still empty, too). For those of you who have done this, do you find there's enough support with the cooler suspended from the aluminum panel only, or did you support the cooler along the bottom as well?

Not my photo but it illustrates what I'm asking about. Note the 2x4 supporting the bottom of the oil cooler.

I have mine just hanging off the one piece shroud. There is enough support. For my build, 351W -427 546hp I have not actually attached the plumbing. My engine runs at 190 perfect even in summer heat. Some have argued that you could keep your engine too low with such a cooler which leads to problems. Of course mine is a street machine and not used racing.

Thanks for your reply.

I plan to do the same here: installation will be fully functional but the hoses will be left disconnected initially. Thinking about a couple of in-line ball valves to control flow through the cooler, but I'll deal with that later after bodywork and paint. Want to get the cooler located now before the body goes on and while I still have easy access to the radiator aluminum. One more question, if I could. Where did your cooler end up between the front and rear edges of the panel? Roughly centered front-to-back? Not sure I'll be able to get the panel back out too easily if I were to install it with the body on to take a measurement.
