Standard rear brakes question

Installing the rear brakes to the axle. In the box with the pads came some thin metal clips I assume are put into the caliper for the pads to slide on. I can't for the life of me put it all together. In the instructions it does not mention the clips as it did for the front brakes, are they necessary? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the video. As you can see in the photo, the clips I received are a little different. The video though gave me the idea to treat it like a regular brake service. Removed the caliper only, inserted the clips and the pads went right in. Easy, peasy. Wish hadn't spent all the time yesterday fighting with them.
