After about 4 months, one very large crate from Dorset, UK has appeared in my garage.

Seriously it was huge!

Jag D-type! Cobra in the corner....

With great nervousness, I put the nose on my Mark II frame. IMHO, it passes the eye test with flying colors. A whole boat load of work ahead of me but that's why I went for it.

My build plan will be very kept simple, Carbed '99 Explorer 302, T-5 from an '87 GT & FOX body 3 link solid axle. Very similar to my Mark III build.

Best of luck with this build. My first impression looking at the body is the cockpit is way forward for the cobra chassis, will be watching with interest on how you deal with this issue.

The Shell Valley D-type is built on their cobra frame, but their version is kind of clunky. What you have seems like a better idea all the way around. The body looks a whole lot sleeker, just like the cat is supposed to be. Who was the supplier of the body ??

Very cool project! I'll be following this for sure. I would assume right from the get-go that the Jag body isn't as high top to bottom and the frame will need to be cut down some? This is awesome stuff. Lightweight D type is a long time favorite of mine.

It did, but I had it deleted because I'm going LHD...

Shell Valley does a C-type, yeah just not right. I'm hoping I can do the D-type justice. I'm not going to go crazy making it a perfect replica but rather something cool with a mixture of D-type and XK SS elements. The body is from Tribute Automotive, Dorset UK

This is going to be really fun to watch. Pls keep the updates coming.

I plan on it!

Is there any way you could do the headrest w/ fin on the driver side? That would really make a statement. Heck, if I saw that, I doubt I would even realize you are driving on the wrong side compared to an original.

That headrest could be easily made using just a few pieces of C-Flex too.

This stuff is great to make boat plugs (male boat molds) or one off fiberglass boats on nearly any size.

Hmmm. I think Jag used the TH400 for awhile so maybe that Chevy idea isn't so far out there?? Of course a turbo V12 would be nice also. If only I could get that Avanti body on the Gen III chassis with an SRT V10....

Yes this is a very interesting project! Good luck Pat,

The FFR Roadster and Coupe chassis' are such a great platform, I've wondered why more bodies weren't made to use them.
Roadster seems like it could also be used for Cheetah (with an LS!!!)
And the Coupe would be a base for a 250 GTO! (barring licensing issues, and that's probably the kicker)

Hats off to you sir. I couldn't even contemplate something like this.

Subscribing as this could be fantastic to watch it come to life.

I thought that too... Put up or shut up time for me! :D The 33 could really be a base for something cool too...

You are correct, needs to shift back around 4" The cockpit is the same 35". Really not unsuspected and I already knew the cockpit needs to shift to the right (meant to be RHD), so there will be a time to break out the sawsall, and go "Hoofa" on it.

I kind of like the headrest like Jim Taylor's D-type, but I'm already committed to the XK SS style trunk/rear-end but with normal trunk. No letter slot trunk, the wife want to be able to fit more wine in it.

Sorry guys for lack of updates, I'm up to my eye balls in a kitchen remodel. Keeping the wife happy! I have rebuilt my 8.8 and installed 4.10 gears, should make her real snappy!

I promise a real update soon!

Dang, in a Jag? Where are your morals man?

In 70s and 80s Jags,(I know that doesn't include a C or D type) the only way to not have a Jag permanently parked at a dealers service department was to put a SBC in it. My uncle swore that his was at the dealer more than his own house. Not that my uncle wasn't prone to exaggerating a little.

I know how that goes. A one point in my build, I could stand in my kitchen, look down and see the Cobra in the garage below.

Well, believe it or not, my Jaguar rebody is actually registered and road-ready! Plenty to finish, but so satisfying to actually drive it…

Hi! Question. Would the mark 5 frame have any advantages with its rigidity and 2.5” lower seating position? Is the Mark 4 a better option?

UpstateCobraGuy
05-02-2025, 08:12 AM
Mark V would be best because of the lower seating position. The seating position of the Roadster is further back and to the outside requiring modifications to the D body. I'm a huge fan of the dual cockpit of the D, but since the originals were right hand drive, the left is a bit tight. Again, nothing a sawsall can't handle. The Roadster dash hoop needs to be removed and the rear cockpit aluminum lowered about 2". Both front and rear metal structures need to be completely reworked. The D body is much more narrow in the bac making the Mustang tank is unusable.

IRS option would allow for better positioning of the fuel tank over the rear end.

Was looking into the possibility of making my own D-Type body. I can get the scan data of an original D and possibly make my own molds to make the body. Seems like a fun, hands on way to do it without tens of thousands in tooling and the decades of experience I lack in forming aluminum into a body.

Thanks! It's been a very fun "Process," Factory Five Racing's frame has allowed me to build one of my dream cars yet again! I like to call myself a "Mad Scientist." I have sawsall and I'm not afraid to use it. Look up the "Wyman Door Mod" on the old forum and you'll understand.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=213480&d=1746580402

I since added a few aviation themed decals as tribute to my father who was an aircraft mechanic with Army Air Corps during WWII. I saw the Bugs Bunny graphic in a photo of a C-47 Sky Train that served in Persian Gulf Command, the theater where he served for four years.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=213479&d=1746580402

I bit more of grey primer to even up the color of the body. I figure there's plenty time to make more presentable, just too much fun not to drive.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=213478&d=1746580402

A keen eye will spot plenty if other FFR bits and pieces on the exterior. Many cast offs other local builders and friends I've made along the way!

At the present time, I'm working the final seating position and door design. Since the "D" or XKSS, DS is on the right and much more to the center and forward, there has been more cutting required. Good thing I have my trusty sawsall... :D

Pat, A bit of history on your Military decals.
The "Hat in the Ring" is the insignia of the USAF 94th Fighter Squadron. In 1968 North Koreans captured the Navy's Pueblo spy boat. As a show of force squadrons of F106 Interceptors were rotated into S Korea to patrol the DMZ and chase MIG21 out of S Korean territory. I was assigned to the 94th in Mt Clemons MI, we packed everything into transports and took out turn at Osan AFB. Because of our proximity to PRNK we set up a detachment on Okinawa for major repair. We had an original 94th bi-plane for air shows.
Currently the 94th Fighter Squadron is a unit of the United States Air Force 1st Operations Group located at Joint Base Langley–Eustis, Virginia. The 94th is equipped with the F-22 Raptor.

The 94 FS is one of the oldest units in the United States Air Force, first being organized on 20 August 1917 as the 94th Aero Squadron of the United States Army Air Service at Kelly Field, Texas. The squadron deployed to France and fought on the Western Front during World War I as a pursuit squadron. It took part in the Champagne-Marne defensive; Aisne-Marne offensive; St. Mihiel offensive, and Meuse-Argonne offensive.

BTW I have a similar rebody in process, a Ferrari Dino body on a 818 chassis with Acura V6 6-speed mid-engine powertrain.
