My build started off with the news that my wife was pregnant. I pushed hard to get my roadster as complete as possible before my child was born and was able to get to a go-kart stage. At that time, I brought the body to Ken Pike who turned my ho-hum average build into something that I was very proud of. The color is Ford’s Royal Red Clearcoat with Wimbledon white stripes. SRP also added hidden trunk hinges, hood scoop, rolled edges, extension under the hood scoop and other things that I’m sure I’ve forgotten.
The Roadster then sat idle for almost two years until I quit my job to become a full time dad to my two children. That freed up the time to tie up the loose ends. Robbin from Midwest Classics helped me with the next challenging step in the build. I was very loyal to USAA and had planned on having them insure the Roadster, but after getting the runaround and a huge quote I went back to rely on other’s experience with Robbin. Midwest Classics is a great company that deserves your business. I won’t go into detail of the hoops that one has to jump through to complete registration in CA. Several people have documented with great accuracy how to complete registration and I am grateful for their efforts.
I found out that I forgot to seal the provision for the dipstick in the timing chain cover so I’ll try to get to NAPA to pick up a 3/8 expansion plug. The only other thing I have to do is an alignment, so if anybody has any suggestions here in the Sacramento area, let me know!
I've put on about 90 miles in the last two days and find the car to be very drivable. I selected the engine combo due to budget and hoping to make around 300hp without destroying my ear drums and having to stop every 150 miles to gas up.
I don’t have any great pictures with breathtaking backdrops yet because it is tough to fit two child seats in the roadster. Has anybody turned the trunk into a rumble seat? :)
