QJ supports - the Kleiner method

I am using Jeff Kleiner's quick jack mount. I have a question about the rear -

I have fitted the threaded coupler at the chassis, but am I right in thinking I have to use threaded bar with a nut to hold QJ on? I'm think a nut might be ugly so I assume I could replace threaded bar with a S/S bolt? Hope this makes sense.

Yes and Yes. I used threaded rod with Acorn nuts

I use the all thread and then cap it with either chrome or stainless acorn nuts. Same on the front. Zoom in on these photos and you'll see 'em.

I dont know the size, so have no idea on a source, but has anyone used hex cap screws?

The advantage of threaded rod and nut vs. a bolt/cap screw is that you delete the inner sleeve and use a nut inside the trunk in conjunction with the outer sleeve to move the lower valance into alignment with the trunk lid.

Sorry, i have not built one yet or purchased the manual yet, so I do not know what is stock. but I would still think you could replace the all-thread with a cap screw that threads into the connector nut. They probably would look more modern, the acorns may look more period correct. Either way, if stock is two sleeves sandwiching the body with a bolt, the mod above is a good one!

This is one of those mods I did early on before installing the tank. At the time, I had no idea why I was doing it other than

1. It allowed one to install/remove the body without dropping the tank.
2. Someone other than me who has built numerous roadsters said to do it.

I've had the body on/off more times than I can count and I am so grateful JK has provided this easy/simple modification. I used 1/2"x24 couplers and all thread finished off with SS acorn nuts. I did have to enlarge the rear QJ holes slightly with a step bit. Easy, simple, looks great, and saves some major $&(@:;&? during body fitment. Thank you Jeff.
