My 1932 and 1/2 coyote 33 build

Thought I'd share my build progress! Its been a trip so far and I've really been enjoying the whole process. I'm actually a motorbike guy and occasionally work on race bikes, vintage racers, cafes, and all sorts of ugly bikes but never anything like this so you can see my struggles with 4 wheels. What a learning process.

Yeah don't let the stream of posts fool you, this has been sloowww going for me. After a few more pics to get caught up, I hope to post the progress pics as I work me way towards something that looks like a car.

Its been just past 1 year to date now. Lots of mistakes, learning, side projects, distractions, kids, life, and slacking in between.

Cool idea to try a '32 grille. Details on the brand of grille shell and grille chosen would be nice. There are many sources and some are probably poor quality. The NSRA giveaway car for 2017 is a traditionally built '33 with a '32 grille. http://nsra-usa.com/Members/Top-Participant-Prize/

Thought about the hood - modify the fiberglass hood, or make a new one from steel or aluminum?

I've seen a real '32 built with a coyote and it required adding blisters to the hood sides, for engine clearance.

Nice work getting things going, and some nice progress. I have to say that engine takes up a lot of real estate!!

I like the 32 grill idea, and I look forward to seeing how it looks once installed.

Any feedback on the CNC rig? Can it handle some metal, or is it wood, plastics, etc. only?

Great build! And in only one day with Erik helping. ;). Fantabulous. I like that clutch bracket a lot. It's similar to what I had to do with my frankenbell only mine isn't pretty. I did end up with a 1 1/8" master because of my pedal box games though. Your actually getting good lever ratio with it moved closer to the bell. Depending on foot box mods you can take the end off the clutch fork for clearance. I don't know where you came up with putting a different grille on the 33 but a carbon fiber hood to go with the coyote may be in order.

I originally tried a brookville steel grill but then later opted to use the glass shell and grill from Speedway Motors as it was a bit lighter and the grill was decently straightened out. Also I don't feel so bad about chopping and modding a glass version up to try the fit first. I think a real lo-boy chopped 32 grill would work pretty well here. Right now, I've mounted it so its slightly angled too, like the 33 rake with the 32 look. That NRSA 33 with the 32 grill is very similar to what I'm going for - nice looking build!

The coyote is definitely a tight fit particularly toward the rear of the engine. I have one screw floating around trapped in the wiring harness back there. argh.

The CNC rig can handle 6061 up to 1/8". Supposedly it can handle steel up to 1/8" but haven't tried it as the noise its making with just aluminum is enough to give me nightmares.

Good to know about the clutch fork. I'll be dealing with clutch adjustments shortly!

For the hood, I'm doing a carbon hood to go with all the carbon details and to match it to the grill. Once I get the grill all setup, I'm thinking of fab'ing a carbon grill to match, no hood sides, and doing a rather cheesy simple wet layup single sheet carbon skin over the entire body instead of trying to actually fab the full tub. Haven't given much thought to the rear fenders yet but will probably open up the wheel wells a bit and maybe bring the rear higher. I haven't yet put the body on so looking forward to that!

This is a pic of the clutch switch setup. I think others have gone a similar route especially if you are running a hydraulic setup.

This is my pedal setup. Its a ford focus pedal mounted to a quick and dirty CNC part that I copied and modified from a focus adjustable pedal spacer that you can get from pony parts. Its very solid feeling and can be adjusted left or right, up and down, or forwards and backwards.

With the fiberglass grille shell it will be easier to blend the rake with the radiator cap position. You have a lot more options with 32 grille sizes and materials in the aftermarket. Looks great.
