Hey Dipstick! What are you doing?

Stock 302 with stock headers swapped to be able to accept the jpipe. Dipstick tube was taken out of the block when refurbing the motor. Now, I'm trying to get that thing back in and it's hitting the headers, rubbing into the footbox, etc. My timing cover does not have a place for the dipstick tube. It's in the block.

Did you guys just bend this thing around your stock headers? Did you trim it to shorten it? That's where I'm leaning. Trim the tube about 6 inches (and the dipstick to match) so that it falls in place a little easier.

Show me your 302 Dipstick location when coming out of the block.

Hey Dave, my dipstick didn't have an offset in it like yours. It came straight up from the block and was bent toward the front of the car. There was a bracket that held it in place that was fastened to a header bolt. No. clearance issues at all.

Hi Dave,

Like you, I found that mounting the dip stick was a regular pain. I didn't trim anything - just bent it into shape. Good thing it’s made of steel, because there was quite a bit of trial and error bending to make the tip seat well in the 302 block and get the bracket to fit over the rear #7 header screw. After mounting the headers, I connected the spark plug wires. The #7 wire is rubbing a bit on the dip stick tube bracket.
