I am thinking of using a marine gauge style head unit in my roadster, just so I will have something to hook up to Bluetooth, and have convenient volume buttons on the dash without making a custom console.
I have seen where others have used 4" speakers in the kick panels, and 6.5" in the rear bulkhead.
Does anyone have a suggestion on speakers and amp to use in this set up. I am not an audiophile by any means. I am not looking to spend a fortune on the stereo, as I am on the verge of deleting it all together. What are you guys running?

I have a stereo just outside the doors.
Eagle I went through the trouble of installing a marine cd/am/fm with 2 marine speakers in the rear bulkhead between the seats, it never gets turned.

I have been thinking of the RETRO SOund systems, the face plate can be remote from the body and that would work, but, I haven't decided if I really want a radio in my roadster as yet.

I upgraded the audio in my 37 recently and am very happy with the Alpine R's. Good quality components, silk dome tweeter, variable crossover, etc. Here's a link to my install thread. http://www.ffcars.com/forums/49-other-cars/582553-37-ford-audio-upgrade.html I think they would work well in the roadster doors or rear bulkhead. Hi...I went with JL Audio. Have front mounted battery, used the rear battery box for the JL amp and crossovers. It's a 4x100, which I am bridging to 2 x 200 rms.
I have 2 JL Audio c3-650 component speakers for the rear panel just behind the seats. Have the JL Audio bluetooth receiver which I am mounting to the bottom of the under-dash support. Only thing you will see are the 2 speaker grills between the seats.
They are black so should look nice with the carpet. I was going to go with their marine speakers but I didn't like the grill.

Just messing with you, sort of. I built a killer sound system in my last hot rod, but hardly ever used it as I enjoyed the sound of the car too much.

I knew I wold get flamed for that question, but if I am going to drive it frequently I will want some tunes even though I know they will be drown out by the side pipes. I figured while I am doing my wiring I might as well get it all done now.

Just understand that my goal is to listen to the traffic, news and talk radio so..........

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I have always associated cars and music as a natural pairing, so I know where you are coming from. You mentioned you are not an audiophile, but you likely don't want the equivalent of a speaker in a tin can either. The problem is getting all the components to fit and having a place to put speakers that will work together for a balanced sound. Perhaps something like this could be installed in the trunk with the speakers coming through the back wall panel?
