order of build

Having seen quite a number of exceptions to build order in manual, I had a question for others farther along than myself. Got firewall, pedal box, front suspension, all front side
aluminum, rack , all seat mounts and steering column. I have yet to do gas tank or anything at rear car. Question is shall I leave steering column in for real or does it get in way of
other tasks??

I had no issues with steering column. Center console came out about 6 times.
