HI guys, I have been having a couple of problems with the fuel tank set up. I purchased a new tank, sending unit and fuel pump from LMR when I built the car, first problem is when the fuel gets to 1/2 a tank the fuel gauge is all over the place. The second issue is about once a year the sending unit seal starts leaking and I have to replace it. What is the opinion of the problem the aftermarket parts or what?

Thanks
Walt

The needle bouncing around is not uncommon. Fuel is shifting around in the tank, and the sender is moving up and down. It sloshs around more, as your fuel is drawn down in the tank.
Ford actually installed an "anti-slosh" module to prevent this. It was mounted in the instrument cluster of the Mustangs. That module will work with aftermarket fuel gauges. You can maybe get one from wrecker, but he may want you to buy the entire cluster. Maybe try the buy/sell on the forums, or perhaps even a Ford dealer.

OK, thanks I will look for one, anybody have a picture of it I think I may still have the cluster from my donor, just need to know what part I'm looking for.

I don't have a module in mine. I just know that anything other than standing still or driving straight at a constant speed the gauge isn't accurate. Easy enough.

Yeah that's it. There was an older thread on how to wire them, (which is actually pretty simple), on the FFCars.com forum.

I found a link to one fellows method of wiring the module. A little more elaborate method, but a good idea. The module he is using I believe, is off a 90-91 donor Mustang. It looks just slightly different then yours.

OK, thanks Bill, I study his info and see if it's something I can do.

This is the module from the 89 do think the terminals would be in the same order as the previous picture from the other forum?

Hmm..I wouldn't count on it being identical.
Hopefully someone may have the correct pin-outs you need for yours. Might want to do a little research on them first.

You could start a new thread, as you might get a better response, IE' "Need help wiring the 89 donor anti-slosh module"
