Replaced a Edelbrock 1806 with a Quick Fuel SS-650-AN

I did my first engine start and go kart about a year ago. I had tinkered and tinkered with the Edelbrock 1806 carb for almost a year, way too long. My last effort was to clean and reset the float levels. I have driven around the block mostly and have probably about 30 miles on the car. Was NEVER able to drive it without the engine dying when I stopped.

I gave up, bought a Quick Fuel SS-650-AN from Wayne and installed it this week after setting up the T-SLots etc. ON first start the engine sounded smoother, the choke worked flawlessly and the warm idle settled at about 1000 rpm. I drove it around the block several times today and all I can say is "Holy Crap" .

Its like a whole different engine.

I haven't even messed with the 4 corner idle air fuel mixture screws as yet, they are all still at 1 full turn out.

accelerating from stopped is smooth with no hesitation. I drove down a road nearby and wanted to try the mid level acceleration. At about 35 mph I gently pressed the gas pedal down, it JUMPED into action, pushed me against the seat and I drove home with a big smile on my face....

To say the least I am extremely happy with this setup.

Yes they are wonderful carbs. When i installed mine I replaced a Demon w/ vac secondaries w/ the SS650AN w/ mech secondaries. Felt like I gained 40 hp in the 2000-3500 range.

I have been preaching Quick Fuel for several years now for the same reason. Holley has now bought out QF to get the rights to the carbs and have started using the good stuff in there high end carbs. For years savy rebuilders have been using QF power valves in Holleys.

Is it my imagination or are the QFT and Holley of very similar design, as are the Proform?. The videos of tuning aspects even seem similar. if so, How did QFT design a carb with very very similar to Holley without a lawsuit.

Can't speak for Proform. Haven't had one or know much about them. Called them once but they don't do choke carbs so didn't do any business with them. But as I understand QFT was started in 1998 by some former Holley guys. No surprise their carbs are similar. In fact quite a few parts are interchangeable. No idea how they got around patents or intellectual property. But QFT's are definitely a Holley clone. Just better in all the right places it seems. Kind of ironic, QFT is now owned by the Holley Performance Group.
