Hi There Forum-ites!

Saturday is the big day for me, Stewart is rolling into town with the giant Christmas Sled packed with all sorts of goodies! This delivery started out with a dose of curiosity 15 years ago, and now my beautiful bride granted me permission to ruin our garage for my 50th bday/crisis!

Funny, I got 3 pages into WarEagle Scott's build thread and then saw his picture and realized he was a pilot buddy of mine, used to be neighbors several years back in Peachtree City, GA. Now I'm in San Rafael, CA......land of the Prius and frogs and birds with important feelings. They are going to LOVE me!

Anyhow, here's the plan:

Complete Kit, powder coated
17" Halibrand Wheels, Nittos
Dual chrome roll bars
Kirkey highbacks, but 17" wide
IRS
Wilwood
Vintage GPS gauges
Quiet Pipes
Breeze radiator shrewd
Forte Triple reservoir
Lucas Wipers
Breeze front battery box
Russ's turn signal
Nissan Leaf electric motor (kidding)
Forte Boss 302/306
Cobra bling valve covers, air filter
Holley EFI
TKO600
And a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten about.

I'm looking for a streetable car, maybe a gentlemanly track day here and there, but mostly the fun and challenge of the build. My wife will occasionally (once) drive the car so it has to be well mannered.

This project is going to be a challenge for me, I'm not well versed in auto knowledge and I have some fairly serious physical limitations from a very bad plane crash I was the copilot on back in 1995 (ASA FLT 529 for the curious). I look at this project as a personal challenge to overcome my limitations and feel the victory of accomplishment, perhaps inspiring someone else in a similar situation to try the same. Please tolerate my naive questions as they come out, I'm looking forward to the wealth of advice that this group so generously shares.

This all leads to my first question...... what is the best strategy for delivery day/inventory? Any helpful hints on organization to make it go smooth? I've got 2 other buddies helping out that day and want to have a somewhat organized game plan. Chassis dolly is built, body buck is being built tomorrow, and the MaxJax lift is installed and operational. Any advice is much appreciated.

Last question, since the kit will arrive with the body on does anyone need any pictures of different fittaments? I know some guys get to the gocart stage and then wish they knew the various clearances/measurements between components.....send me your requests and I will get them for you.

Happy Wrenching!

Can't wait to follow along Matt! Enjoy the build.

I think the best inventory tip I got was after checking each box put those parts back in that box so you can find them easiest later. Down the road I started combining boxes when some started to empty out. Also I wrote what back ordered parts where missing from each box on the actual box itself. Then when the parts showed up I put them in the appropriate box and crossed that off the list of missing parts.

Might as well learn to post pics now and post one of your garage setup. Sounds nice!

Welcome aboard! Inventory is kind of a solo job since you are the one who needs to know what and where everything is. Your buddies will probably get bored and start drinking your beer while you are tearing into boxes. Print and extra copy of the inventory lists and tape a page to each box so you can later look at the box and know what is in it. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Congrats! Sounds like a solid plan.

My advice RE: Inventory---The packing list is broken down by box. I make a copy of each page then grab a box and go down the list line by line. Put a check mark for items that are present and note any that are backordered or missing (FFR also notes BO parts and includes a list of those items). Once I have completed inventory of a particular box I slip one checked off copy of that box's packing list into a clear sheet protector sleeve and tape it to the top of the box. I then take a Sharpie and label the end of the box with it's number and the major items that it contains (front suspension components, lighting, etc.) and put it on the shelf. I keep a master list with another copy of all of the individual packing sheets on a clipboard. If I'm not sure where something is and don't see it noted on the end of the box I simply refer to the master list and when I come across it it's easy to pull the proper box. I don't generally think of myself as being meticulously organized but after having done a few of these cars this simple system works well for me. I recently completed a car that had been begun by someone else and arrived with parts missing and jumbled up in multiple boxes. Let me tell you, that was a royal pain to sort out :( Investing a few hours to perform a detailed inventory is time well spent in the end.

Cheers,
Jeff

Saturday was one of the best days ever! Took delivery at the local mall (big crowd ensued) and got the roadster up to the house. Inventory went really smooth, had three helpers and accounted for every nut, bolt, and doo-dad. The steering rack tried to make baby's with the radiator during shipping, so both got rejected due to the damage. Other than that, a double missing bushings and washers/bolts were all that were missing. Very impressed.

Body came off and snuggled atop the body buck, chassis dolly fulfilled its 20 foot lifetime trek to the MaxJax, and all is good.

Let the fun begin!
