Hi forum members,
My name is Tim Smit and I live in Aruba but am actually from Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I have been playing with the idea of building a car, like the MK4, since the beginning of the 90s and I guess its time to finally get going.
I will be attending Build School on August the 11th and am in the process of prepping a complete kit order, complete with crate engine. Since I do live on a small island, resources are limited so I am trying to get a kit together that is as complete as can be. And since there are nearly no donor cars here I just have to play it safe.
My mechanic knowledge is quite limited but one of my friends owns the local Ford and Mercedes dealerships so if needed I can get help from guys that know what they are doing. Besides that I am also not the clumsiest guy on the block so we will see, and Build School will definitely be worth it I think.
What actually got me going is the fact that I want to build the care before my 3 sons leave the house (and I guess the car will be a good reason for them to come visit their parents now and then...)
I am proud to become a part of all of this and if anybody has any advise or tips please don't hold back.
It will be very nice to meet you all, warm regards,
Tim
