Has anyone here blacked out the chrome on your build, to go for that modern look?

What is the best process for painting over chrome?which parts would be the most difficult?

You might consider powder coating, but the parts will need to able to withstand 400*F.
For larger parts a wrap might work. A lot of people try Duplicolor, but I don't know about durability.

I used black spray Plasti-dip on the badging of my Toyota truck. It's lasted 6-years now and the trucks parked outside. Big advantage is if you don't like it, it's easy to remove.

If you want to spray it properly in 2 pack, then House of Kolor make a 1K adhesion promoter called 'AP01 Adpro'. Works a treat. You spray one light coat, wait 3-5 minutes then spray your basecoat or direct gloss 2 pack as normal.

I'm planning on blacking out my chrome. You left out the fuel filler top, tail light and turn signal bezels. I've got a lot of building to do until I get to that stage, but I'll post how it goes on my build thread. I'm going to sand all the chrome to get a good key, primer, and paint with a single stage paint. (I'm gonna look into the adhesion promoter mentioned by Paintwerks. I had not thought of that.) I recently built a Baja Bug where I blacked out all the chrome.http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=64889&d=1489146113 Time will tell how durable it will be.

I do know the parts need preeped or scuffed. Painting directly over chrome does not give a good adhesion.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on what process you use if you black your's out.

I wonder how hydroprinting would work!
