I have been reading the posts about length of build and a few have said their car has been at paint for several months. Mine will be gone for 3 months and I shipped it to the "Bat". Other than money why does it take several months to paint one of these cars? Just curious.

The painting itself isn't what takes the time. Initially there's all the fitting and gapping, and lining everything up to fit properly. Then there's the proper cure times required for each step of prepping the body. HSRF has a particularly long cure time, then the body filler, the slick sand or hi-build primer, the final primer, etc. Proper curing will help prevent shrinkage issues. Then there's all the time spent sanding between each application. In some instances, multiple applications may be needed, with cure times required between each application.
Combine that with the fact your car isn't the only one in the shop, and they need to schedule time in the paint booth, along with the other ones.

It sucks having to wait, but if you want a nice result, better to have patience.:)

Hi Doug
I'm getting ready for paint now and curious to know your location since you shipped your car to the "Bat". He does great work and I'm still looking for my painter. Good luck.

Just as an aside..
You guys in the US, do realize you can save around 25% on getting the car done in Canada, because of the exchange rate? That's a significant saving..

I am looking for a web site for "The Bat" other than sending a private message to J Kleiner. If my painter falls thru I would like the option of maybe shipping my MK4 body to SRP.

Jeff "DaBat" Miller is listed on our vendor page. His website is under development but the contact tab works. http://jmillercustoms.com/

Mine was at the painters from The third week of Sept to mid-March so 6 months! Too long IMHO and what is most bothersome is I have to take it back to address items missed by the painter. He said he would take care of them but trailering back down there another 3 hours is not fun.

You're in good hands with Jeff so don't wrong a thing.

"DaBat" is awesome; any questions you have in prepping it - he's Johnny on the spot with answers...
