Weather Pack Style Crimper

I know we all like to but new tools but sometimes I struggle with buying tools for a one or two time use.

So in saying that I am looking to see if anyone has a Weather Pack Style crimper that they would be willing to loan or rent to me.

If someone has one that they no longer need I would be interested in possibly buying it used.

I got the cheap one that Dell city sells and it worked just fine. Still $36 but much cheaper than the others they offer. Still using it though.

I bought a set of ratcheting crimpers with with removable jaw dies. One set of dies cuts, strips and crimps spark plug wires for custom fit, another does either insulated and/ or uninsulated F crimps, a third does complete Weatherpack crimps. The dies can be as expensive as the tool, you need to shop around or even buy used when available.

Related, but a little off the original topic: will BOTH "regular" and "weatherpack" crimpers be needed, or just the weatherpack? I definitely needed both but I am a little out of date in terms of the wiring components and level of completeness as supplied by FFR today. I had to build my own dash harness from scratch, so needed many types of terminal ends, bus connections and connectors (not just 'Weatherpak' style) to make it work. Hopefully, someone else can offer advice on what might be required in terms of more current components.

For weather pack connectors, all you need is a real Weather Pack type crimper. It will crimp the wire and grommet in one shot. There are other, cheaper ones, out there that you do each separately. Ratcheting is better for consistency. You will also need a pin removal tool. They are inexpensive. Basically a little tube on a handle.

Have a look at the instructions and make sure you are crimping correctly and putting it together correctly. I have seen a lot of them done incorrectly. If so, they are not so weather-proof.

You will want a set of "regular" crimpers in addition to the weatherpak ones.

With interchangeable jaws I can crimp weatherpak, insulated, and non-insulated connectors at will. The only limitation I ran into was that the largest wire you can crimp is gauge 10; I bought a second set of crimpers to handle a couple of 8 gauge wires.

x2 on needing the removal tool. You WILL goon something up and want to take it apart!
