Boyd I went to the Lost in the 50's Cruise in the other night at Marley Station, I met TPM3 (Tom) and saw his beautiful blue with white strips Roadster. Also saw a black with white stripes Shell Valley with a big block...huge motor, can't remember his name I was so paranoid of the possible rain. Hope to see you out and about soon. Are you just about finished up and on the road?

Hey Dave. Still waiting on Whitby's. They said 6-9 months... Sept 25 was 8. Not that I'm counting or anything. ;) The car is go-carting well, really believe I'm pretty much wrapped up on everything till I can get the body installed.

Marley is a good show. I've spent hours just walking around. We'll get a meet n greet together someday. I did Cars and Coffee a few weeks ago on the Triumph, met the guy with the blue / white Mark 3.

I'm doing a show by the River Whips Auto Club this sunday. Raising money for the Annapolis SPCA where I volunteer, so thought I'd bring out the Boss Go Cart. Its at Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold. I'll be working the SPCA booth with the car. ;)

Hows yours doing? Any surprises?

No surprises thank goodness. I've been having so much fun driving I haven't done anything I intended like the Breeze front grill, Boig exhaust and other little things. Hopefully your paint will be completed at 9 months. I haven't decided yet to do the AACC or the Bowie show, Bowie is a farther drive for me so maybe there. I might do the Annapolis cars and coffee that morning. Hopefully it wont rain.

No surprises... must be a good build! ;) This weekend is supposed to be a beautiful weekend to get your car out. I'll PM you my number and we can text about who is doing what.

Obviously, not much is happening with my build. The car has gone into hold status waiting for Whitby's to get the body done. Yesterday, Oct 25, was 9 months. <sigh>.......

Whitby's said 6-9 months. Dec 25 was 11 months, and they are basically not talking to me about any timeline.

In the meantime, Ive decided to revisit a few things. One I never liked was my switch-on, switch-off turn signals. If I ever left them on, which I would and then I'd be THAT GUY running down the road with his full bright LED tail light blinker blazing away....

I decided on a Signal Dynamics self-cancelling turn signal module. It has sever modes for length of time and works for hazard flashers, too.

Had to change my positive click type switches over to momentary, or spring loaded, switches for the turn signals and the hazards. That was easy with an order to Ron Francis, where I sourced all my switches. Then got the SD unit wired into the output wires from the TS switch. Now the Ron Francis harness has the hazard wiring mating to the T/S wiring in the harness somewhere, but I needed the hazard wiring to be between the T/S switch and the SD unit. So I cut those wires back and tied them into the T/S switch screw lugs. I should also mention I'm using diodes to prevent backfeeding 4-ways.

One other item is that the SD unit controls the flash rate (and is safe for all led usage up to 10 amps). So I removed my 2 led flashers from the fuse box and installed jumper wires for now. I will remove the wires from the fuse box and tie them together (removing the jumpers) when I drop the fusebox for windshield install.

I'm glad to say it works! Just a 2 second contact with the momentary switch engages the SD Unit for a short 7 second round of flashing, then it shuts off. Thats Mode 1. There's 2 more modes for longer desired periods of flashing. And a 2 second hold on the hazard switch engages the desired 4-ways which will stay on until you hit the switch again.

Cool little mod that works well for those of us that dont use the turn signal on the steering column (I'm using a removable steering wheel, so couldnt use that).

Still hoping to hear from Whitby's soon... I've heard of one that took 16 months, and yes, the quality was fantastic, but thats a long time to wait...

I'm sorry, but this to me would be totally unacceptable... Fantastic quality or not, I'm never going to give my car to someone for that long to do a job that should not take more than 6-10 weeks. I actually contacted Whitby's to see about pricing and timing and they were very non responsive and the responses I did get where one line answers.... Like I was pulling teeth to get an answer. My last email to them, not yet responded to, was to ask how I could get on their waiting list. I'm guessing that they just do not want the business or know that they can not deliver on what they currently have. It's a good thing I'm planning to have my car at Jeff K's in the fall, but I wanted to see what other options I may have several hundred miles closer.

I expected the body to be there for a while... they do not have my car, just the body and associated pieces. They made space for me 1 month after I contacted them. They said they do the bodywork all the way through slick sand right away, then leave the body outside (under cover) until its turn comes up for paint. They had 27 cars ahead of me when I dropped off the body.

Others may get it in and out quicker, but I understand it can take up to a year to get in with some of the experienced F5 body guys. Difference is, my body is sitting there waiting instead of sitting here waiting.
They did say 6-9 months to complete, and yes, they are pretty bad at communicating. But I'm also not in a big hurry to get my car done. I would like to hear from them, tho, and that is the point of my comment.

Hopefully you'll be ready for spring. Another not so great experience is coming up, the MVA inspection, taxes, and then state inspection. Hopefully you have better and a smoother time than I did. Will you be going to Auto Italia in Rockville for the State inspection after you visit the Glen Burnie MVA? If I had to do it over I would.

Thats pretty much where I'm thinking of going. I dont know any other place I'd trust. Could discuss it with the CACC guys, tho. I havent reached out to them because I dont know when I will be approaching that date.

Did you have any issues with the State Police Inspection? Did they want anything in particular?

Got the word Friday that my body is in the shop getting the rough bodywork done. 4 cars in the shop now. 1 being final wet sanded, 1 being painted, 1 in final bodywork, then mine. Shouldn't be too long now...

Havent done much on my car lately. Dropped the dash down a bit with some new brackets, installed heater air hoses, installed all the weather seal strip stuff. There's a few new things I want to do when the body is done and I get the car back.
Speaking of which, I loaded The Boss up into her trailer today, headed off to Whitby's tomorrow to drop her off for fitting and covering.

Man, that 427W is loud with no mufflers...

I wanted to add a little color to offset all the muted grays and blacks, inside and outside. The blue lends a little nod to history and it makes a nice color to add some pop here and there to keep it fun and not too boring. Cars like yours and Scotts have a natural pop designed in... I had to add something. Anyways, I'm liking it and pretty happy so far.

The plan... hmmm... I have about 2 pages of punch items to do. I'm gonna reach out to the State Police about their Glen Burnie insp next week, see when I can do that. I hope to have it legal and cruising this fall, just in time for the nice hoodie weather. :)

I really, really like the paint!! Great choices that complement each other very nicely. That blue pinstripe is a really nice accent, that will work well together with the interior plans.

I also really like the main body color; very rich look to it.

I look forward to seeing some more as she gets wrapped up. Thanks for posting the details, and also showing tremendous patience with the process; that couldn't have been easy.

All the best!

Thanks Steve. Its a great feeling to see whats in my head coming together... and it works. I was concerned it would be totally fuzzed up. Hopefully, I'll see it Friday.

Waiting, heh. Yeah, its been a while, but thats the choice I made. And I'm really not in a hurry. For me, a lifetime mechanic, the build has been therapy, a hobby, spending nice time with a good friend. Never been in any hurry. ;)

Time to start putting her together. This is the detailed stuff that has been seen about a thousand times, but it's a build, so I'm gonna post it up

Installed Breeze hood and trunk prop rods. I've never been crazy about gas struts and they are a serious PITA when they get weak. Cant go wrong with a good ol' polished stainless prop rod.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112823&d=1566516528

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112825&d=1566516534

The hood rod I installed per the Breeze instructions, but on the trunk I didnt really feel like dropping the tank to install a cotter pin. So I used an adel clamp and mounted it to the trunk floor. Looks OK, and besides, its in the trunk. ;)

Next I got the fuel filler going. Tired of smelling gas in the garage and not really safe to have it open, even if covered. Standard ops here, except i ditched the self tappers and installed stainless oval head screws with washers and nuts and yes, antiseize. I didnt understand the terminals on the ground strap being so big, so I installed my own and now its all good. Also replaced the supplied tank filler pipe seal with a Ford piece. Better quality and should last longer. PN F4ZZ-9072-DA

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112822&d=1566516523

Last for today I started to install the Breeze upper radiator cover. Got 2 clecos in and had to quit...

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112821&d=1566516516

cuz the dog needs a walk and I got chores to finish up (living alone, its all on you, man).
Small stuff, but all part of the 2 pages of punch list items to get through.

Later...

Looking up at the top front of the radiator:
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112873&d=1566605228

Got all the exterior lights installed today. Headlihts are JW Speaker 8700 Evo2 projector LEDs. Some may not like the style but I do and I love how much light they put out. The bug eyed look doesnt bother me a bit. ;)

F5 stock parking / TS lights with amber LED's installed. Yes... bright. This is on dim.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112870&d=1566605197

And with the headlights, also on dim.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112869&d=1566605189

Finally, the tail end, still on dim. I may get a video of how I wired the tail lights to work... All 4 are brake lights, then both lights on each side flash for turn signal. All 4 flash for Hazards. It really is a lot of light.

Boyd-

She looks terrific! I really like how the paint turned out, and that blue accent stripe really sets it off perfectly!

You are knocking out that punch list nicely. It won't be long now, to be sure.

Thanks for the updates, and congratulations on getting so darned close!! I look forward to watching you wrap things up.

This weekend was front bumpers, scoops and pipes.

I have the ********** bumpers. These have 3/8-16 welded nuts inside them. Of course the ********** body grommets are 3/4", so I hit McMaster Carr for some 3/4 x 1/2 aluminum tubing and some 1/2 x 3/8 nylon bushings. Bushings fit inside the tubes, 3/8 threaded rods fit inside the bushings. Nothing is loose, no rattles, looks pretty good. Will look better when they are polished up. However, I may paint them the same color as my stripe (Ford TN Silver Gray Metallic). One thing about the **********s thats different from the F5's is that welded nut inside... the F5's use a bracket. So the F5's can be mounted at an angle to match the grill opening angle. You cant do that with **********s. So mine are mounted straight up n down. Doesnt bother me a bit.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=112977&d=1566857767

No, they are not at different angles. Picture angle makes it look odd.

Worked on my ********** brake scoops, which will be feeding my footbax fans. Trimmed them to fit and glued em in with some high strength adhesive / sealant. Used the old stick trick to hold em in place.

Next up was the pipes because I cant run the car with open headers... at least not too long. ;) Used some 1.5" stainless 3/8 bolts and hardware, installed with antiseize of course. I had earlier opened up the mounting holes to allow some vertical adjustment and it worked well. The front is up on blocks right now, so I'll 2x check and adjust again if needed. But they look really good right now. The drivers may need a very small wedge... that space difference is only about 1/2" at the back end of the muffler section. Pretty happy with how this full Gas-N Exhaust for the 351 based engine has turned out.

Drivers pipe:

Spent some good time with the Boss in the afternoon on the 29th.

Finished installing both seats. If you've seen my other thread on these seats, you'll know that I'm not happy with them. I mean, they fit fine, I just dont think the style fits the car very well. And my OCD will not let me live with those shoulder wings being all bent at different angles.

Worked on the Tangent oil cooler scoop lights. I believe I have the last set sold, as this is his prototype set for the latest run of lights. Documented earlier, I replaced the lamps with LEDS. I have the white and blue tied together for now, and powered through the headlight switch but with their own switch. So headlights have to be on for them to work, then its a choice whether or not you want them on. I'd like to wire the blue lights separate later on, so they always come on with ignition like a DRL. Just another small blue detail as in the rest of the car.

I had also bought some Breeze grills for the radiator and brake scoops, but I dont think I'm gonna use those. I like this look. I think I will paint the aluminum panel the same color as my stripes... Been on vacation for a week, spent the time in Southern Utah with my brother and friend, riding adventure bikes and jeeps all over the place. Had a great time, but very nothing got done on The Boss.
Soon as I got back, I had to do something. Since my self-induced chore list was so long (only 1 day till back-to-work), I decided to use the vinegaroon that had been soaking for a week.

If you dont know what it is, see www.instructables.com/id/Vinegaroon-Black-Leather-Dye/

This was fun and easy to do, and the end product is quite nice. I saw someone else post on here that when they did it, they liked that the stitching did not change color. I like that little detail, too. Makes it cleaner. However, in the grand scheme, its such a little detail...

Anyways, some pics...

New straps, fresh from the bag:
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=114466&d=1568707779

One swipe with the paintbrush. I did 2 applications. Left the hardwre in place and they dont seem to be affected.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=114464&d=1568707765

Finished product, still wet from the baking soda & water bath. When dried, they look nice.

I did this a couple years ago with the door straps and the leather pieces on the harness. i think they look more finished and match the black interior better. The only thing to becareful of with the harness is that it did cause a little rusting of the metal pieces.

Havnt done too much, took a weeks vaca out to Vegas and Utah with my brother, did a bunch of very fun adventure bike riding. Beautiful area.

So I figure I have about 20 hours in mounting seats, and all I'm doing is bolting seats to mounts and mounts to the floor. The 55V Kirkey's do not mount the same as the hibacks. Anyways, I finally have seats in and secured. Yes, they are angled to follow the center console, as that's the straight shot to the footwells and the pedals.

Didnt get a pic, but I mounted the Kirkey brackets to both turn under the seat, then drilled 4 holes in the seat pan to be able to get a socket on the bolts. Worked out nice this way with the narrow area to mount and I dont feel my holes sacrificed any strength.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=114889&d=1569371138

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=114888&d=1569371131

Had to do some adjusting on the passenger shoulder belts as they were kinda short, not easy to do with the Breeze cubby, but got that done.
Waiting on a backordered Breeze wedge for the sidepipes, when that comes in I'll be able to mount the pipes and close up the wheel wells with the splashguards.

Got the roll bars all final bolted in and installed my Mike Everson / ReplicaParts trim rings, made for the Breeze bars. That was difficult drilling that first hole.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=114891&d=1569371151

The angle bar on these roll bars goes thru enough to never be an issue, but not enough to get a bolt all the way across the bar. So I had to drill 1 hole in one side of the bar, and tapped it for a gr8 3/8x1 bolt and washer. It aint going anywhere.

More work in the next few days, need to get to the rear of the car and get the exhaust finished up.

Trying to go for legal VIN, taxes, title and temp tags on Oct 8.

Not much impressive stuff to wow anyone with, but build work is build work.

Changed the tag light over to led. This is the last light to be installed and the car is now officially 100% LED. Used BA9S-WWHP5 warm white from Superbright. Direct replacement.
On the tag mount, does everyone else use the 4 screw holes? Or just the 2 up top? Seems the bottom 2 holes are not on the same plain and would pull everything down weird.

Also installed the door check straps. Riveted for now, will change that over to stainless hardware later on.
Installed the windwings and Breeze mirrors. Nice stuff and looks good.I can see me carrying tools to tighten any of this up if it gets loose on the road.
Built the visors, but need the #6 square nuts to mount per one of the many Kleiner mods out there. I'm not putting screws into the windshield.

I wasnt going to do this small stuff in my build thread, but I ran across one or 2 details that just might help someone else, so here come the sunvisors...

I bought the F5 visors. After assembling the hinges, instructions have you screwing the mount brackets into the windshield frame into previously provided holes. Some have suspected this as a cause for cracked windshields.

I decided to go the Kleiner route, using #6-32 square nuts in the top frame channel. Quick trip to Ace and I had em. Went to install and found the supplied screws were not long enough. Another trip to ACE and the shortest countersunk #6-32 screw they had was a stainless 3/8". Just like 60% of this car... "I'll make it work".

So a 3/8" screw (.375) is too long... it will dig into the frame. The F5 screws were too short... .200". I found a screw at .250 - .270 is just right, so I'm shooting for 1/4". BTW, this is overall length.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=115093&d=1569661927
Depth check at .250". You can see the reflection of the end of the screw... it is not touching the frame.

While measuring screw lengths, noticed the F5 screws were smaller than #6. Measuring proved it... 3mm screws at .118 dia. #6's are .135. So my visors were supplied with 3mm screws.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=115092&d=1569661919
Left is #6-32x3/8 from Ace, center is modified #6 to 1/4", right is the 3mm as supplied by F5.

Anyways, onwards with the #6's. Easy work from here on... found the thickness of 2 washers and 1 of the square nuts made a perfect guide to get the right length of 1/4".
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=115095&d=1569661941
About 20 hits with a double-cut ******* file and it was good.

Final assembly and nothing is touching anything but the top rail.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=115096&d=1569661952

Final product. F5 visors, windwings and Breeze mirrors and nothing can possibly touch the windshield glass.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=115094&d=1569661934

Gotta say, thats a lot of stuff hanging off the windshield. Really liked the clean look before installing all that. I'll see how it goes down the road...
Kinda weird that after building this whole car, I do a detail on visors. Go figure. ;)

Getting to the end, little by little. Finishing everything up so I can make the Oct 8 Maryland VIN inspection.

Installed the rear ********** bumpers. These things were a pain and took about 2 days to get it all figured out. But I got it.

Rear wheel wells are all undercoated with Herculiner, that took 2 days for 2 coats.

Next up is the drivers sidepipe (cant wait for the backordered Breeze wedge, it'll have to go in later) and windshield wipers. That should be enough to get it through VIN and temp tags.

Worked with Robbin at Midwest today, should have coverage tomorrow. He made it super easy through email when I couldnt speak to him on the phone due to work.

Still working towards Oct 8.

Yesterday I got the drivers exhaust installed. My Breeze wedge is still backordered for the drivers side, but I gotta go without for now. Removed the front splashguards and stuffed a bunch of window unit air conditioner foam in next to the footboxes. Wheels back on and lugs torqued.
Later today I have to change the distributor drive gear, fear I've got the wrong one on there. Installing a bronze from the distributor manufacturer, Pertronix.
Windshield wipers on Friday and / or Saturday.
Got insurance yesterday from Robbin at Midwest. He made it easy, quick and painless.

Spoke with a local inspection shop yesterday for MD state safety inspection. He's never done an F5, but seemed willing to talk about it. I'll get the VIN, title and temp tags and then go talk to him.

Thanks Scott. In Maryland, long as you have insurance and title, you can get 30 day tags for $20. They are supposed to be for inspection only, and you only get 30 days... no renewal. If you cant get it done in 30, you gotta tow. Once I pass inspection, I pay the 2 year fee and get new stickers.

Doubled my total miles today, just running around the neighborhood. Up to 13! Got out on one major road and up to 50 mph. She feels good, almost everything is in working order. No pulling, no drama, good brakes, steering is easy if maybe a little darty. Might just need to get used to it. Idle oil pressure 65 cold, about 40 hot. Jumps up instantly when the throttle is touched. When hot, engine sounds a little tappy for a full roller. May need to adjust the valvetrain. That tiny single wire alternator from Jones Racing works great, takes a little throttle tap to bring it in, anything above idle is showing 14.5 volts. Water temp is riding about 190 while moving, 200 sitting with a 192 thermostat. Feel like the Fortes mechanical throttle is dialed right in... easy to modulate, east to drive sedately and takes a good step to crack into it.

I'm using a (non forum vendor) electric heater valve. It quit working and was stuck in the heat position. So even with the fan off and the vents closed, I've got some heat coming in. The company was very responsive to knowing whats wrong with it and working with me.

Other than that... she's a beast! Need to reset the ride height, but very little else. Gas-N headers and sidepipes on a 427W sound fantastic. All those SUV's and even the VW's look very, very big. Taking her out to a local cruise-in not far from the house tonight. Like to get some more miles before I get too far from the house.

Did my rough headlight alignment last night. Very easy to do with the JW Speaker projector leds. They project such a precise beam with highly defined steps and cutoff points. Took about 15 minutes and I was done.
Just need to finish the wipers an I'll be ready for MD safety inspection, which may happen Monday...

So she's on the road and we are driving. Been putting on a few miles just in the neighborhood.

Last night, a lady friend came over and helped me put one of the final touches on the outside of the car. Back before I ever bought from F5, I designed and bought these BOSS 427 side badges from Billet Badges.

We went for a ride. Had to sit up on top of my seat at the bank's ATM. :) Went to a Street Survivors Cruise In in Glen Burnie. The Boss got a few nice compliments. We got her up on the I-state for a little bit, saw north of 60mph for the first time. She feels good, sounds good, feels quite small. My lady friend has driven some hi po cars in the past, including a 1000 hp 2003 Mustang. She LOVES the Factory 5. ;)

It was a good evening. I think we are taking it out again tonight to a larger Cruise In on the other side of town. See if I can get pics this time.

Hoping for MD State Inspection on Monday.

Thank you very much, Steve. Definitely having fun. Interesting the shift from building something ("I'm doing this") to actually putting it to use ("I'm driving something I built"). Its fun, it's nerve-wracking, it's amazing.

Went for another drive yesterday. Got up on the interstate, up to a cruise at 75mph. She felt really, really good. Drifts a bit to the left when letting go of the wheel, so slight it might be the road. No wheel balance issues. She's makin me a happy dude.

Getting a lot of heat from around the footbox. Yes, I had stuffed window air conditioner foam in there, as well as a chunk of foam I had around. Made me think my heater valve was leaking. I'll get some low expanding foam to shoot in there. Also need to readjust ride height. Havent measured at the frame yet, but the body is right on the back tires with about 1.5" gap up front. I'll get that straightened out today.

Need to make a windshield wiper gasket today, only got 1 in my kit, then finish those. Hopefully going for State Inspection tomorrow to get regular stickers.

Took her to the local sat night Cruise In at Brusters Ice Cream, Glen Burnie. Lots of cars there, some very, very nice. Chatted with a bunch of people, received many compliments. Most common questions were 1. How much did it cost? and 2. What kind of car is it built on? Never answered the first one and people were kinda shocked when I explained the 2nd one.

I get the same questions about mine. What frame is it built on? Do you just bolt the body panels on? Why do you want to repaint it if it comes painted?

I get more "thumbs-up" from kids, truckers, and bikers than anyone else.

(It is kinda scary looking at 18-wheelers right in the lugnuts!)

I've noticed that... Having ridden bikes for many years, I'm very aware of being in blind spots and staying where I can be seen. But this F5 is a whole new story... I'm below other peoples mirrors!

Boyd-

She looks great, and you must be stoked to get her out there; and now to do it legally!!

I am sure you are getting lots of positive feedback at the shows, and you should!

You have some more good driving weather up there before winter shuts you down, and I hope you and your lady friend get to have plenty of fun.

Great job on a great looking car!!

Since I'm a single dude, I'm involved in animal rescue and enjoy seeing people smile and laugh, well, there's several reasons for this to have happened yesterday.

Oh, and I also replaced the power steering pump and reservoir with some pressure and flow help from the guys at Jones Racing. Good stuff. Never liked my old setup with a U-turned -10 AN feed hose. Now the reservoir is right on the pump.
Attended a Veterans Day car show this last sunday with 285 other cars. Got one of 85 Participant Judged trophies.

Finally got it aligned at a local shop. We had to custom input the numbers into the Hunter, glad the tech let me work with him. I had it very, very close, only had to adjust 1 camber and 1 toe. Rear is perfect.

She just continues to get better and better...

Boyd,

This made me smile and think good thoughts seeing your plate :) I'm sure it will have the same effect on others, whether you drive by or are just stopped some where. And hats off to all your hard work for our four legged friends! It's people like you that make me believe we still have a hope for humanity! You're a true hero who doesn't wear a cape? Keep up the great work on the car and with the animal rescues too!

Hey Boyd, I'm hoping I'm only a year or so behind you but you know how that goes. The build thread has been really helpful and the finished product is something to be really proud of. Gray is one of my candidate colors and your combination (down to the blue pinstripes!) is really, really well done. Hard to find a gray that's rich and deep instead of cold, and you nailed it. I'd say have fun, but clearly you're already doing that. Way to go and congratulations! Cheers, -- John

Spent a cold day in the garage today. Got my fuel filter installed under the passenger seat, Breeze front battery box mounted, hoses ran for the axle and fuel tank vents, made the pressure hose to run from the tank to the filter. I'll be making more hoses tomorrow. Ordered a bunch of adel clamps for all these hoses and finalized / ordered all the pieces I'll need for the rest of the fuel system.

Still waiting on the powdercoater for my engine comp't aluminum, F-panels and all the bare steel pieces.
Few pics, not much to see...

what fuel filter did you go with? why not the one that comes with the kit?

Last few days have been pretty nice during the mid-day, so I'm still working on putting on miles and expanding my distance from home. I'm up to about 125 miles now and no issues have popped up.

Stopped by the GF's work to take her out to lunch, but she was running business errands so I took her parking spot under threat of Tow-Away. Took a pic to tease her... she said the Boss looks awfully good in that spot!

Might try for Annapolis CnC this sunday, forecast is mid to upper 40's in the am with 40% chance of rain. We'll see if it gets better...

The quality of this car continues to amaze me. The handling is fantastic. I had her up to 82 cruising on the interstate, and it was just getting started, but felt so good n solid. F5 has put together a beautiful, well designed product that does not fail to impress.
The Gas-N headers and pipes are doing well, no leaks and the sound level has not been an issue. Manual Wilwood brakes with the NT05's will solidly test your safety harness. I could go on and on...

I have not yet found an issue with any of the choices I made or any of the parts I installed. Everything is working well and she continues to make me smile every time I see her. The car, not the girl. Well, her too, but you know what I mean...

Hi Bruce and welcome to the forum! I got your first post... Yay!!

Its been a good time doing this build. Now moving on to driving it and learning it is just a new part of experiencing the same machine. And yes, I am quite proud of what I've been able to do, but I couldnt have done this without the help of others on here, local builders helping with some hands-on or just ideas and definitely by reading others build logs.

Are you planning on or already building? Just looking?

Thanks John. My color choices were either blue or gray. Fav color is blue and there's some outstanding blues out there today. But I wanted something a little different, not "another blue Cobra...". I decided on the Gray because I had an 84 SVO Mustang that was Dark Metallic Charcoal Gray and I loved that color. When I dropped off the body at Whitby's, Jeff showed me some grays that were outstanding, but this one, the Sterling, took it. There was another F5 Roadster there that had just been shot with the Sterling and that sealed it. Later on I saw a Coupe done in Sterling and it looked just as good.

Thanks for the nice words of support. Keep at yours... you'll get there. ;)

I used the Holley 162-552, 10 micron. I'm using -6AN (3/8 lines) threaded fittings throughout the car. The F5 / Ford filter uses push-on fittings and smaller hose, so it wouldnt work for my application. If you build as designed, the supplied filter will work fine.

Watch out though, with a car like that and that license plate you may end up with too many girlfriends.

I am doing research and planning my build, still a few years away though. Right now I'm trying to nail down what engine I want to go with...leaning towards a 408 as opposed to a mod motor. Sending a PM!

Getting further and further from home. Monday did a 50 mile loop from my house out to Annapolis and back. Car is running really, really well.

Only items I've had so far are small things that needed a bit of tightening... the drivers seatbelt Cam-Lock knob was coming loose, the fuel tank lockring for the quantity sending unit was a bit loose, causing a minor fuel leak the first time I went to full tank, and the drivers outer rollbar leg bolts were loose and started a pretty loud rattle I could hear in the seat on the hiway. Thats been it so far.

As I was riding up through the main drag of downtown Annapolis, I could see people off to the side taking pictures. I had my WOOF hat on. ;)

Had a problem with the Boss runnin really rich, sorta mis-firing, couldnt even get it to idle to warm up. Plugs replaced, spark confirmed. FiTech codes said O2 sensor, replaced it, helped a little. Searching through FiTech controller, found idle IAC steps were up at 135... should be between 3-10. That means the idle air control was cracking the plates open, dumping in more air, the o2 sensor was commanding more fuel, but the computer was trying to keep the idle down at 800-850. Makes it run really bad.

Got the IAC steps down to 7 at a warm idle, she's much happier now. Few days ago, it was up to almost 80* with no rain, so I introduced her to Knoxville (or Knoxville to her!). Good times and glad The Boss Is Back. Just wondering what made the IAC steps change like that. Will talk to FiTech sometime and see what they say.

Only other items I've run across is the engine rpms drop way too fast between gears and when clutching, and I still have bodacious amounts of heat coming in around the footbox.
I slowed down the decel rate with the "Decel Open IAC" settings. Normal is zero, you can go negative for faster decel or positive for slower. I added 10 positive, and a quick test drive looks promising. Makes for much smoother shifts and less fear of it dying as it comes down to idle.
I have already sprayed low-expansion foam into the gap around the footbox, but still have heat coming in. I'll have to try the split pool noodle trick.

Hope everyone is healthy and safe...

Guess I failed to mention that part... yeah, I moved about a month ago. Got an opportunity to work at TYS, doing the same job with the same company. I have a lot of family around SE Tenn, and it's where my folks are from, even tho I've never lived there.
The living is cheaper, beautiful mountains nearby and less than 1/2 of the population of where I came from.
Cannot wait to get The Boss up into the Smokies, if it ever quits raining.

Nice work on the 911, Scott.

I'm interested to see how you solve the heat in the footbox issue. I didn't install a heater and planning on sealing up the footboxes the best I can. I was worried that it would be too cold!

Thanks!

Well, the heat is not actually in the footbox. It comes from the header area, then around the outside of the footbox. It comes out just in front of the door, so way too far back to be heating up the box.
When the body was installed, I did use the square pieces that came from F5... my thinking is they shifted some. I tried some low expanding foam but perhaps didnt get it spread around enough. When I can get under the car (It's in my bros 1.5 garage right now, sharing space with the Rocket), I'll get some split noodle shoved in there to seal it up.

I only have 400 miles on it so far. End of '19 / start of '20 has been rough for getting in some car time.

I have not noticed any heat in the footbox. I have used the heater once, and that was not terribly bad. I did seal my footboxes very well... the problem I'm having now is the heat coming around the outside of the footboz, along the insode of the body.

I have a heater and heated seats... I dont like being cold. I'm glad I have them.
