I am using the stock 94 EFI and computer setup in my build. The heater box is taking up the best real estate for ECU placement. I know others suggest placing it on the top inside of passenger side foot box. With the heater and defroster ducts is there enough room behind the gauges to mount the ECU on inside of firewall on drivers side. Any pics of ECU mounts people have I would sure love to see them. Thanks in advance

It'll fit behind the dash along with a heater box, but it's a tight squeeze. And you might need some additional support for the firewall. Mike Everson's firewall support works great for this purpose. If you look closely at the first photo you can see where the right side of the ECU is mounted directly to the firewall support flange.

First two photos are mine, but the last one is borrowed from Mike's web page.

I used a 94 donor as well. The ECU is mounted to the bottom side of the top passenger footbox panel on the far right side. I have a heater taking up the real estate behind the dash. I can get you a pic later in the week if you'd like.

How did you route the wiring harness past the 2x2 tube? Over and through the engine bay or under and visible under dash??

My solution:

Passenger footbox top access drop down panel with Dzus fasteners
63751

Custom brackets fabbed to stack electronics
63752

Boxes mounted to drop down panel
63753

Top of footbox converted to compartment opened to cockpit and isolated from engine bay.
63754
63755
63756

The location is function over form to some extent. I have a standard Factory Five firewall and the heater resides right behind. The grey cable is a serial cable for the ECU and the black vacuum hose is for the ECU's barometric sensor. The beauty of this location is that it give great access to the ECU for service if need be. I'm running a Stinger ECU which is fitted into a stock Ford case. It runs Megasquirt (Microsquirt) and utilizes Tuner Studio for tuner software.

Now you see it.

And now you don't

The wires to the ECU run in front of the 2"X2" bar. In the 7 years the car has been on the road no one has ever seen or even mentioned the wires running to the ECU. You really have to crawl into the footbox to see them.
