Hi Guys,

If I was to order the roadster kit setup for a 302 based block and then later decide to swap to a 351 based block what would I need to change (besides the engine)? I believe the engine mounts are the same, so I assume the only thing I'd have to change would be the headers and maybe deal with some hood clearance. Does that sound right? I'm mostly just wondering if I could change my mind on power plants part way thru the build and not have a major problem switching between the two. The other scenario I'm looking at is if I go with the 347 and years later decide I want more power and then switch to the a 408 or 427.

Thanks,

Frank

Depending on transmission choice, you may need a drive shaft and transmission change. If you go with a 302 and t5, then bump up to a 351w with more power, you may want to go with a TKO. It would require a new flywheel but I believe your bellhousing, and all will fit the new motor. Any particular reason you are debating between the two?? Donor motor I assume.

Planning on the TKO for transmission.

Mostly debating between the two because of power (408) vs weight and ease of installation (347). Most likely I'll buy the 347 from BluePrint Engines (where I work), but I've considered building one myself. In that case I could go either way, but probably 408. Also, I was just curious, If I decided I needed more power in the future I could always build a 408 to replace the 347. Mostly just thinking things thru.

Well then it's a matter of flywheel and headers it seems!

Forget the 347 and do a 351 first. Get the same cubes and use bone stock crank and rods and even pistons (although you might want a little more compression). You can do a stock 351 w/ an Edelbrock or similar top end and cam kit and get around 400hp.

Since you don't have either one right now, I see absolutely no reason to waste time & $ w/ a 302. Later, if you want, that same 351 stock block can go to a 408.

I agree. I have a 302 now that I'm in the same position. I want more power. I'm adding a custom grind cam and aluminum heads, but I got the car with a 302 from a previous owner. I would have done the 351. It's just so much more scalable. Why spend money twice
