Looking at rebuilding the 302 to make it a little more wild. Thinking of aluminum heads and a cam. Any suggestions on a good cam and other mods while I'm getting into it. I have the T5 so trying not get my torque numbers too high or will need to change the tranny too.

Thoughts or suggestions.

I have lots of bits and pieces that will help you make some good power.

Trick Flow has some sweet 302 based setups!

I run this Trick Flow Twisted Wedge top end and couldn't be happier:

Good torque down low and pulls hard to 6,000. I've run the living snot out of it for 25,000 miles (just ask Steno ;)) and haven't hurt the T-5.

Cheers,
Jeff

I'm running AFR 165's with trick flow cam (I think stg 2 as I recall). I am using a tubular gt40 upper. I know I can make more with with a better intake but I love the tubular look. It makes 310 hp at the wheels and is a kick in the but to fldruve. Pulls to just past 6k and still has decent low end for driving around.

The t5 should still live at that level in this light car. Part of trans limits is not just torque input but weight. The lighter the vehicle, the more it can handle. Take the new m6 in the mustangs. It's torque ratin is like 390 which is what the 5.0 makes about. But that rating is at 10k lbs. so it generally does ok. As long as it's in good shape, good shifter with stops and not abused prior to your use, you should be good.

I bought my engine from a salvage yard and used this when I rebuilt it: https://lmr.com/item/LRS-6049C-K/1987-93-Mustang-50L-Top-End-Engine-Kit

In hindsight I probably should have spent the extra money for the version of this kit with the twisted wedge heads. I just had my first start, so all I can tell you at this point is that it works...
