View Full Version : Header alignment
I am changing from J pipes to headers and with them bolted up the driver side is centered in the opening and the muffler pipes at the curve hits the body, the drivers side is about 1.5 inches to the front, i tried loosening all the mounts and turn the engine and tyranny but there is not enough play in them.
Any help would be appreciated!

More details. Engine and what headers? Pictures would also be good.
HI, I have a stock 302 with EFI and we're told the headers were from FFR, I'm struggling getting picture to load but will keep trying, Thanks

As I understand your description, (the driver side is centered in the opening and the muffler pipes at the curve hits the body,) this can be fixed w/ a combination of spacers and wedges from Breeze.

But then the rest of that sentence says ( the drivers side is about 1.5 inches to the front). Do you mean the passenger side? Or?
Yes sorry the passenger side is about 1.5 inches to the front, the muffler will bolt up to it but then the bracket under the door is to far back for the bracket on the muffler.

Seems like moving the trans to the driver side might help both headers. How about remove the trans mount lower bolts completely and shove it as far as it will go. If this does help, drill new holes?

Ah, but then, what about the drive line angle (side to side)? I just love these man puzzles.

Yes, theoretically. But I have had my solid axle all over the place at times w/ different experiments that temporarily screwed the pinion angle and never had any problems. As a tech, I have also dealt w/ a couple of cars w/ vibrations after a wreck and they were WAY out so that is why I made the suggestion. Also, if Walt wants to try it, it is easily reversed, so no downside.

Those pics really don't look bad. I've seen way worse! Keep in mind with the curve of the pipes they will exit the body slightly behind what you're seeing through the openings. I agree with the Craig. Maybe the driveline could be shifted a bit to get them more consistent side-to-side. I too doubt that it would be a problem. But even if you had to trim the body from there, it's not going to take as much as you might think on the one side. It's not unusual that the exits are slightly different from side-to-side. As someone told me on my first build when I was grieving a little about that, you can only see one side at a time. He was right. Never noticed it after it was done.
OK, I thought maybe somebody had adjustable motor mounts , I have tried lifting the motor and tran. Moved closer to where it should be but when I set it down the motor mounts pull it back where it was.
Thanks
