On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being very difficult), how difficult would it be to use a 2008 GT engine/transmission/axle if a FFR? The donor manual only goes up to 2004 - does this mean that the current Mustang chassis is sized very differently to the 1987-2004 and the widths and lengths of the various "oily bits" neccessitate too many modifications to fit? (I have a line on an 08 driveline for $1,500)....

Thanks,
Jonathan,

Jonathan,

We have an 07' 4.6 in our Mk4 in the showroom. It bolts in no problem with the 4.6 foot box panels and motor mounts. The only issue is that we do not have headers for the 3 valve 4.6. We used 2 valve headers with a bolt on adapter that bolts to the 3 valve head. Late Model Restoration carries those adapters.

Our car has a T-56 6 speed transmission in it. The transmission from the 08' mustang will not work in our kit as the out put shaft design is totally different than the drive shafts we carry. You could use an after market tremec 5 or 6 speed transmission with a 31 spline drive shaft.

The rear end would NOT be useable. It is too wide for our body. It is so wide that it would put the wheels outside of the body. The control arm mounts are also differtent on the later model mustang rear ends.

The 3 valve engine is a great engine to use. Great power and it's light! That is the only component you could use in our kit though. It would be more expensive than you were planning, and more wiring too!

Best regards,

Brian @ FFR

There are a few people on the other forum who have installed the 05+ 3650 Transmission. The problems are the driveshaft ($300-400 for a custom shaft) and getting the hydraulic clutch to work. The benefits are you can mount the shifter where ever you want since it is remotely located. I bought an SN95 pedal and a 05+ pedal box and combined them along with new brackets to get a box that works and operates the hydraulic cylinder. I'll post pics this weekend when I get a chance.

A week late, but here's what I did for the transmission. The 3V drive-by-wire pedal is a lot smaller, so it would easier to accommodate.
