Is there anything special about the IRS center section vent? Such as a check valve? It appears to be a simple vent.

I don't believe so but am not 100% sure. I ended up cutting about 1/3 of it away on installation. Cheap and easy to order the Ford parts. If you are considering fabricating something yourself the piece that plugs into the differential would be useful to have. Be aware the vent consist of two separate parts.

A simple aluminum tube with no check valve at all.

Add a flexible tube to get above the center section. There are small filters that can be added, on the end, to keep the water and debris out. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt180/GWL-FFR/IRS/VentforCenterSection002.jpg (http://s609.photobucket.com/user/GWL-FFR/media/IRS/VentforCenterSection002.jpg.html)

Mine came broken off so I had to drill it out and replace it.

This part is one of one. Not two separate pieces.

This is how the one piece comes. I cut it down and reinstalled the end on the cut down section:

"There are small filters that can be added, on the end, to keep the water and debris out."

For what it's worth, I used fuel filter from a Stihl chainsaw, and looped a clear plastic vent hose in a circle a few times to further prevent water and dirt from entering the housing.

Mine came with the small aluminum piece. I'd rather take some brake line tubing and a filter and fab up a vent since there isn't a check valve or other complications...appreciate all the inputs!

Never seen a filter on any production car, not really needed at all.
