I informed Tony when purchasing my Mk IV kit that I want to use an auto trans.
He quickly advised which model and stall rpm to use on the converter. I am sure he will be able to advise me on any tech questions I have.
Are there any owners running autos with pic available of the shifters and suggestions for project? I have looked at Lokar and will probably use something from them, but also wonder about the 4 speed indicators.
thanks,

I used Lokar and they offered a trans shift indicator, it involves a cable operated module that is programmable. Here is an interior shot that shows the components .61031

You'll probably need to modify the A-frame mount to allow room for the trans pan.

I used the stock shifter from my '91 Mustang donor and made a bracket to mount it low in the trans tunnel frame members. I made a cover to blend it into the tunnel cover. I like it because it sits much lower than all of the aftermarket shifters I've seen used.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to see something that more resembled a stick shift as it comes out of the console. This would put the pivot bolt just below the console top. I guess with a cable shifter the height can be adjusted. I have not researched the 4r70w completely, but seems like I read it is an updated AODE. I guess the outside dimensions would be close to the same. I was looking at the newer 6 speed auto, but Tony recommended the 4r70w. I do not see a down side to the fewer gears, even if it is a wide ratio.
I like the Lokar display that is incorporated into the side of the console trim ring. I might have to consider the paddle shifter to have more control of the gears, since the shifter seems to limited to less than all 4 gears.

Mine is a plain old AOD and yes, the 4R70W is an updated AODE. My eventual plan is to pull my drivetrain, stroke the 302, and upgrade to the 4R70W, but it's just not in the budget right now.
There was a guy on the other forum that dismantled his donor shifter just like mine, and grafted the F5 shifter handle onto it. It was pretty tricky. :)

Hey auto trans guys! As I have proceeded with assembly of my 20th Anniv. Roadster with an auto trans. i have faced MANY struggles to shoe horn an auto trans into the MKIV. Here is a brief summary of my plan based on much research-
Shifter choice (Lockar), gear indicator (Lokar), trans (originally an AOD from Monster Trans, changed to a Lentech 4R70W due to lack of tech. support from Monster), stall speed on TC (custom TC- 3000-3500 stall),trans. support frame modification, Quick Shift 4 Trans controller, and... COOLANT LINES! If you guys have not explored the routing of the coolant lines yet, get ready for a real challenge. After spending many hours and after purchasing a number of fittings, custom made parts and removing the fully installed drive train I think I have finally arrived at a solution to the very limited space available to connect coolant lines to the trans. I should have a report on the coolant line clearence issue within the next week- stay tuned.

I have mine installed, I can send you some pictures, I think I posted them on my build thread. It was fairly easy, the biggest issue is the A frame needs to be cut and welded, a few tabs cut off, and shifter and kickdown. I used the lokar kickdown and the stock 95 mustang shifter mounted in the trans tunnel, looking like a 4 speed shifter coming through the floor. Even the T-handle was replaced with a round knob.

Lokar Midnight Series shifters have the choices you want, I think.

Here's what I was thinking of: 61062
Of course you could choose any knob you like.

I am using the polished version of this UPR shift knob for the stock shifter in my MKIV. I plan to try and use the stock rubber shift boot that FFR supplied, but if it does not work, I will use a leather Lokar boot.
