A few people who have seen this, think it might be a good alt body or race body for the GTM.

Something I did way back. Avenger is just an inwork name......lol

Let me know what you think. If I get enough interest, I'll finish it and get it to work for the GTM frame as much as possible.

Thanks, David

The cockpiut isn't big enough for side by side seating is it?

Been a while since I have gone over the drawing, not sure, it was done orig. for a race sim then evolved into a design for a real car. But it can be adjusted to work, just make the cockpit wider.

Looks nice.

Where did you find 405 X 33 rear tires? I am using the same Dunlops as an ALMS LMP1 car and they are "only" 375 wide X 28 tall. Still, I haven't found anything wider. What are the tires specifically?

Oh and BTW, if your rear tire height is 33 inches, then just a quick estimate yeilds about a 55inch high roofline. My GTM comes in at 43 inches, so there is quite a bit of difference between your car and the GTM. Not only minorly in wheelbase length, but majorly in height. Probably won't work with the GTM frame without some pretty drastic mods to your initial design there.

Not to throw cold water on ya, but there is also the issue of the front overhang. I can almost gaurantee that the nose of the car you have there will be ripped off by a driveway or curb if somebody tried to use it on a street car. ;)

Where do you come up with 33" tall tires, shesh, thats what i had on my 4 x 4 truck lol. Looks like the Pmetric sizing would put the tire somewhere in the 28.4" Dia. range. It's a great looking design. Is that what would happen if a GTM and a SLC got together and had lil ones? I agree with the nose height, there isnt a road around here that is even suitable for a 4" ground clearance.

You are right. I thought the 33 was a tire height in inches. I seem to recall most series numbers in increments of 5 so I guess I just thought that the 33 was in inches.

Stil interested on where to find a 405 wide tire though. :)

Glad you mentioned that, those tire spec.s are wrong, I never went back and changed them, those where off the Nissan R390 if I remember right. I need to change that, but they will probably change anyways to tires to can find.

These are the tires sizes on the drawing (had to go back and scale them out...lol)
Front -305/25R19
Rear - 375/30R19

Have to remember this was/is a race body design, ground clearance on it is 2.5" (body). For a street version I would have to adjust it to 4.25".

The overall ht. is with the roof air scoop, I would probably adjust the roof ht up to 43" and lower the air scoop down a little.

Like I said it's been a while since I have really gone over this drawing. Did it way back in 2003

Why not submit it in the "design the new FFR car" contest?

I don't really follow it, but that is what FFR is asking for for the Subaru based new kit they are working on.

The contest is over. The wheel base on the Design contest is 95". I did do a design, but I didn't get it done in time. check out the thread in the 818 section, Vantage Design Project.

As already mentioned, the cab width and front overhang are the two big ones.

It is a nice design, but I would like to see a convertible, targa, and coupe versions worked out at the same time.

The cockpit width right now is more set up for a race body, but can be changed as with the front overhang. I wouldn't do a convertible, targa version of this car.

It's just an idea that might work as a alt body or race body on the GTM chassis. Of Course I would have to get more into detail with the GTM Chassis to make it work, and not sure just how to do that without some spec.s or spec. drawings.

From a performance viewpoint, which hurts more?

A: Disturbed air flow from open top

B: A/C on all the time.

It's a summer car, right?

From what I understand A/C saps very little power these days so an open top may well hurt performance more if it is badly designed and increases drag significantly.

This body or another, I like the idea of interchangable bodies for the GTM.

Actually the Superlite SLC looks some what like my drawing, considering I designed this back in 2003, and RCR wasn't even a company until 2005, and SuperLite Cars came a few years later........lol

I haven't read this thread in a while, but since I am working on some design mod.s for the GTM, I went back over this thread again.

Working on a about 3 major rear end designs and 2 rear minor ideas for the GTM, with some side, front, front deck ideas, as well as a few rear spoiler/wing ideas.

Can't wait to see those designs! Whenever I build my GTM I definitely know who to look at for ideas!

Would love to see this with a WRX donor package. Hope FFR works with you on this. This design looks like a keeper!

HI David,

I realize that you designed this as a GTM variant. However, if a new frame is used, then most of the layout should not be impacted by using a WRX donor package. Plenty of power, maybe even room for STI transmision. This addresses the second donor transaxle challenge that GTM builds encounter. Also, these lines look friendly to a no paint gel coat, or thermoformed panels at the same time. Solving these two issues could put a variant of the GTM such as your Avenger nto reach of many more customers. LIghtweight, high reving turbo, low CG boxer, great aerodynamics, 25K build possible assuming a 20K kit.besides being hair on fire eye candy with matching performance..Wow...

Not sure about a wrx package, the GTM is about the size of a corvette, it would be like putting a 4 banger in a Ford F-150......lol

Actually I didn't design the Avenger (don't really like the name, just was a Inwork name) as a GTM variant. It was designed for a Racing Sim game way back, even before 2003. The Racing Sim was SCGT.

I am kind of thinking of reworking the Avenger shape some to try and make it work with the current GTM body and chassis, but that will probably be more down the road after I do the design ideas for the rear.

The rear of the GTM has never appealed to me, just doesn't flow with the rest of the car. The rear fenders have this nice rounded shape to them, then all of a sudden the rear was just cut off like, flat, yes there is a somewhat curve to the overall surface from side to side, which is good. The rear just needs to more defined to flow with the rest of the car.

Don't get me wrong, the rear works, just doesn't have that wow factor to it.

Happy Holidays!

I gather you are talking about the Avenger having a WOW factor?
For right now I am not going to work on the 818, and probably not for a very long time. I have asked for certain views of the 818 in high res. to make it easier to work with, and to no avail, no reply. I hate having to go through the pic etc. that are available and cleaning them up before I can even start doing design ideas, a lot of work, mostly time consuming.

I am having the same problem here with the GTM. The best pics with the best angles are of the Gen 1, so I have to turn the Gen 1 into the Gen 2.......arrrrhhhh!!!!

Hi David,

Yes the Avenger does have that special WOW. The long and low front seems limited to track only use, but what a beautiful track car!

Regarding pictures of the Gen2 GTM it might be worth starting a thread requesting these pictures from current Gen2 owners? Perhaps giving them examples of the specific views you are looking for might help? 818 photos (or CAD views) might be harder to come by, but you never know?

Regarding power a little 4 banger can surprise folks. A friend of mine is embarrasing alot of big iron at the drag strip with a AWD minivan. Your design would be a definite Aero, Weight/CG and certainly Asthetic upgrade. You might get a kick out of this video::rolleyes:

want the ultimate minivan? look up the renault e-space f1. i'd trade a fully built gtm for it! (sorry fo the detour/highjack v-man! thought those who'd never seen it would get a kick out of it.) that one in the vid is still a FEW seconds away in the 1/4 from my s/c 351w notchback. (soon to be single turbo)
