I have seen several pics of the Blue Harbor Freight Riviter being used by builders. I just purchased one and the manual says that it has to be primed with pneumatic oil??? It does NOT say what kind of oil (assuming that pneumatic oil is not the same viscosity as lubricating oil)... Or how much oil to put in. Am I overthinking this? Thanks in advance...

I don't have the exact same riviter but I think all the pneumatic riviters are about the same. I actual have a Klutch pneumatic rivet gun. It is sold by Northern Tool and is their house brand. Per the instructions a little bit of oil is needed before each use. I bought oil designed for pneumatic tools at Home Depot. I think the brand is Husky. I put three drops each day before I use it including before the first use. I have a few other pneumatic tools and I do they same for each and haven't had problems.

Hope this helps. I am sure some of the site experts will chime in.

Turn Two, I bought hydraulic jack oil at HF to use in the riveter. The instructions aren't very good but they state to hold the upside down and pour in hydraulic oil and that the fill level should only reach the top of the frame. If your riveter is item #93458 the parts list shows #15 as the frame. I just guessed and filled the tube that the piston assembly slides into. It didn't take much.

Compressed air will often carry water through the hose. Recommend that you you also run a couple of drops of oil through the tool when you are done with it before you put it away.

Marvel mystery oil, Tri-flow, sewing machine oil, ATF, hydraulic fluid, etc. Pretty much any light weight oil.
