I am thinking about putting a new pan on my engine. Which racing pan fits better? Front sump or rear sump? Or does it matter? What is the max. depth of the pan I should look for?
Thanks

I believe 7 1/2 or 8 is the deepest you can go. A few guys have the Aviad pans which are nice, there is also Armando's pans which is basically a copy of the Aviad design.

Fornt or rear sump does't really matter; theres room for both. 7 1/2" is about max without hanging below the frame rails. If it's a street only car, then pretty much any extra capacity pan will do fine. For racing, get a pan specifically designed for that activity.

I'm using a pan designed by Chris at Quality roadsters, and built by Canton. It's still available from Breeze for the 5.0; but not for the 351W. It doesn't work as well on the race track as I'd like it to, hard braking causes a pressure drop; so I added an Accusump.

If I were buying another pan today, I'd call Gordon.

I've used Canton pans with baffles and trap-doors on both of my past two track cars and have been very happy with the price/performance ratio. However, you have to be careful with installation to ensure that you don't get seepage around the flanges.

I recommend Gordon's pan - fits perfectly, excellent ground clearance, good capacity. What more could you want?

I get to use 7.5qrts of oil in it (although I don't know if oil capacity is based on the pan, the engine, or both?).

Thanks for all the responses. Looks like I need to do some comparing.
