View Full Version : Tools no longer needed after build?

I know lots of guys(myself included) buy tools for a project even though they are single-use tools never to be used again. End of project = gather dust.
I often sell/give them to the next eager builder but this time it's me looking. My MKIV should be here next week so I've got the garage prep'ed, chassis dolly built, and already gathering odd and ends.
I'm looking for anyone willing to sell, borrow, or pay forward their clecos and tool, and/or pneumatic riveter. I'm in SE Wisconsin(53105) and could either travel if local or pay to ship.
If anyone is willing to pay forward, I will obviously do the same once I'm complete. Anyone interested in letting some unused tools go?
Thanks,
-TJ

Great idea, but another thought would be to make a trip (or go on-line) to Harbor Freight. Lots of the low-use tools that help to make a build easier / better are really affordable. Plus, you never know what your next project will be once you've built your FFR!!!

Oddly enough, you rarely ever see tools listed on the classifieds here, or on the FFCars forum.
I imagine a lot of fellows are like me, in that as soon as you sell something you haven't even looked at in three years, sure as heck something will come up where you needed it...Heck, I have duplicates of many common tools. Some things like hammers, I probably have five or six kicking around. Almost inevitably if I loan a tool, I never see it again, so it pays to have extra's..:)

I generally feel the same about holding onto tools(and other things...) well beyond me using them for fear that I'll need it right after I get rid of something. The tools I do pass along to the next guy is stuff life spanner wrenches for a particular brand of shocks, or other specialty things that I truly know I'll never need again.
I've unfortunately taken a different approach to loaning tools after(like you) never seeing them again or getting them back damaged. Except for a very small "circle of trust" I just won't loan anything of sizeable value anymore.
