Cleaning aluminum panels

What is the best thing to use to clean the aluminum panels on the mk4 roadster....thanks lee doucet

Towards what end? Aluminum metal prep if you are going to paint or many solvents will remove the printing.

I used acetone to remove the lettering, and any residues from when the panels were cut at the factory.

I used some brake cleaner and scotch-brite pads. Also ran a file across the rough edges to deburr.

I did the same thing as AC Bill.
Acetone worked great.
