Front Splitter - How is it on the track?

For those of you running the R model splitter on the track, I'm curious to see how your splitter is holding up on the track. Also, about how much does it weigh?

I'm trying to decide between making my own out of alumacorr, or buying the FFR one. FFR's is like $650 shipped, or so. I can make one for about $215 in materials out of the alumacorr and feel it would be a little more disposable/replaceable, and plenty strong.

The splitter weighs almost nothing, maybe say like the rear engine cover or less.

650 vs 215, that's a huge difference!!! Why are you still questioning which one to get if for 215 it's replaceable and strong?

The FFR one looks a lot nicer. Alumacorr isn't pretty, but it gets the job done. I'm glad the FFR splitter is light though!

Do factor in repair-ability. Yes, I ran super-low ride height on my car that had a splitter, but it(they) took a beating- kerbs, rocks, other cars :) the ground, feet, etc... I was never sorry I made them from good 1/4" plywood with a layer of CF (for looks...) over a layer or 2 of s-glass on the top, and a couple layers of glass on the bottom. Layed-up on a sheet of waxed melamine.

Jeff, the old style CF FFR splitter weighs just a little less than the rear engine cover.

I've had 4 days at the track and been over all the rumble strips. Chad had the car out several times before that. The lowest point is about 3 3/4 inches off the pavement. It sticks out in front of the fiberglass about 4". I've even been fully off the track in the dirt, once. No damage. However, I've got a total of 14 feet of ramp to hit the back of my trailer when the deck is 16 inches off the ground. Mine is carbon fiber. Not sure which version. The front splitter is a long way in front of the wheel making the angle of approach really low.

Thanks for all the replies. Some good info and ideas here. I like the plywood overlaminated with fiberglass/carbon. I might skip the carbon (to save money) and just paint over the glass with some black paint, if I go that route.

IMO it's a vestigial part. Unless you add bracing and mounting struts it will fail at track speeds.
