Hi all,
Today at the Factory Five Racing Open House, Karen Salvaggio was announced as this year's recipient of the Robert Feddersen Memorial - Factory Five Legacy award!
Karen,
Thank you for everything you've done over the years to promote racing, friendship, family and brother-sisterhood. You have been there for so many people both as a mentor and friend in times of almost any type of need (both mechanical and personal) and truly have the same selfless, giving spirit that Robert, Greg, Paul, have.
Congratulations! :D

Randy,
The words "Thank you" seem less than ample in expressing my gratitude.....Robert Fedderson was a monumental man, and his kindness, integrity, and depth of character represent the very best in our community. Greg and Paul's commitment to our community and daily acts kindness were of equal measure......I am truly humbled in the award, and will remain eternally grateful to our community for this recognition.
Over the years, I have recieved help from literally hundreds of individuals through the Factory Five community. That help came from local owner/builders as well as people who lived hundreds and even thousands of miles away, and many to this day that I had never met. This help came from wonderful folks representing virtually every FFR forum community, including Roadster, Coupe, GTM, Hot Rod, Spyder, and fellow racers in the Challenge Series.....With countless acts of kindness sent our way, including the awesome support we recieved from the Coupe and larger FFR community in our 25 Hours efforts, perhaps the following story defines our community best.....
In 2007, in the days following a devastating on-track accident, and with a broken collar bone and ribs, I stood in the garage looking at the car that had save my life....My Challenge Series roadster....She had suffered great damage though, and in many people's opinions among the larger racing community, she was surely a total loss.....The FFR community, and my wonderful crew of friends and family refused to believe it though and they told me to get busy on the healing, 'cause unless that accident had knocked the resolve out of me as well, I'd be back on track (in this car) in less than 16 days....Uh, right....
The call went out through that group of friends to the larger FFR community that it was time to marshall the resources for the #28.....Later that same day, I receive a message from a kind member of the forum that I had never met, telling me that he had read about my need, and that he would be driving the 100+ miles down to my house the next day to help with the repairs....That person was Robert Fedderson, and a warmer, more kind soul you will never meet.
He was joined at my house that same day by our own Kouros, and Robert, Kouros, and Andy set about assessing the damage and "fixing" some of the most significant damage anyone would ever tackle....And they did it with one belief: This car will race again!
Later that week, forum member Dan Ziol (whom I had also never met), came over and spent the day with us, replacing the upper bracing for the 3-link, which had been "relocated" some four inches to the right (panhard rod was in the shape of a banana).......Dan and Andy "convinced" and persuaded those parts into place, and they remain there today......Monumental effort to be sure......Fellow forum members Larry Johnson, Bud Keil, Doug R., and so many others sent parts, and my house was like a normal stop on the UPS/FedX delivery route for the next two weeks......In the days immediately following the accident, Dave Smith and Jim Schenck contacted me and asked me to just let them know what we needed....A week later, the Stewart truck arrived with enough body panels and suspension parts to complete the repairs.....Sixteend days later, with still healing bones, I strapped into my Challenge Series racer and competed at Thunderhill.....Through the kindness of folks that I had never met....AAAmazing!
In the years since, through competition with the greatest racing community, and in sharing the roads and joy of driving our cars with the most talented builders and kindest people on the planet, my appreciation for what we have as a community has only grown. Robert Fedderson, Greg Marsh and Paul Mastroianni are indeed uniquely wonderful indivudals, and I have learned in these years that there are countless others quietly performing great acts of courage and kindness every day. I am indeed among the most fortunate people in the world to be even a small part of this community, and hold each of you close in my heart. I look forward to sharing many more good times with you, and in welcoming new folks into this awesome community.
With sincere appreciation and boundless gratitude,
Karen

This Award was started by Randy Jones and others whose love for our friend Robert Feddersen has translated into a legacy to re-tell his story of fellowship and goodness in the FFR community. Greg Marsh and Paul Mastroinni were deserving recipients of that honor, as are you Karen.. All of us send our love and prayers for Andy and ALL of us are excited and proud to recognize you for this award. You have earned it times 1000 and are simply one of the finest people I know. Congrats. We'll have an Open House release written tomorrow, but we are all just trying to recover over here!

Congratulation Karen, You truly deserve this award as I never forget your help (along with Andy) when I had a broken roll-pin in my distributor at Willow Springs. That was the first time we got to know one another. Although I didn't know what was wrong with my car or how to fix it I knew this, that I felt a generosity and kindness from both of you that was warm and reassuring. I am blessed to have great friends like you. I wish you both well and will be over to see you in person very soon.
Much love,
Roya & Kouros
