Is anyone installing back up lights on their Cobra. I believe the tko600 transmission has a switch on the left side to activate a back up light when the gear shift is in reverse. I can find no topics of discussion on this.

Most states that have specific laws regarding the registration of replicas do not require reverse lights. There are a few that do. I suggest you find out whether your state requires them.

Most builders do not incorporate backup lights unless they are mandated by the state as Frank mentioned. 2bking came up with a clever and discreet solution using some superbright LEDs:

Good idea, I'll reach out to other Wis. owners or find out what the Wis. DMV requires. I do like 2bking's idea.
Thanks guys.

I used the wire for the fuel pump, cut it at the trans (TKO 500) and ran it into the trunk with the license plate light. I modified a chrome license plate frame to attach two bright white LEDs.

Many of us Coupe builders have installed back-up lights, we installed them since we have very limited visibility when backing up. I want everyone back there to know what I'm doing. We did it just like JIMOCO suggested. I'm not sure that everyone would recognize those LEDs as back-up lights, but they look nice.

More ideas here (http://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-factory-five-roadsters/561897-dot-third-brake-reverse-light-recommendations.html). My contribution is post #8.

I did this and used the mini cooper light.

For my car I wired it so that when reverse is selected, both rear turn signal lights come on together. But then again, where I live, our rear turn signals are amber!

Backup lights are required in NY. I didn't like the modern look of a built in light, so went with an external Hella lamp from a Kharmann Ghia. Original plans were to just leave it on for the inspection (together with the dashboard 12v heater and clip on wipers you can see in the picture) but now I kind of like that old school look. I also hooked up using the fuel pump circuit that I'm not using.

As far as I know most states that require backup lights also mandate they be DOT certified. Thus the Mini Lamp asy.

A roadster backing out of a spot between two SUV's has the similar issue, and its a smaller vehicle to boot. The reverse lights act as a warning.
They can be helpful at night as well, especially if your out in the country, where there's no street lights.
I used clear bee-hive lenses, for the old school British look, somewhat like the taillights, and mounted them below the rear body.
