Has anybody ever found the thread size for the water temperature sensor? Mine is from a 07 EZ30. I'm hoping there all the same. I checked a hardware store, Lowes and called a Subaru parts department. It doesn't look like it's a pipe thread and it's not metric.

Most tapered threads on the Subaru are BSP.

Yes, most are British Standard Pipe thread as hindsight said. For the water temp alternative, you could try...

Just a FYI, these are best for oil galleys when doing temp and press. Their direct replacements for the oem bsp and oem plug(s) that convert it to NTP(Autometer and many other gauges)

cheap 1/8" NTP extender if you need it for a huge aftermarket oil press sender your gauge came with...

You answered all my questions in one reply. Marry Me??? I have to install VDO sensors for water temp, oil temp and oil pressure. That extension line is what I need for pressure. I just need to add a double female to it. The oil pan plug I need for oil temp and the water line adapter does the trick.

The water line adapter has to go into the line going back to the engine, correct? That's the one on the bottom, right? (There's plenty I don't know!)

You want the ProSport Remote Oil Pressure/Temperature Sender Install Kit, MODEL # PRS PSROPKIT. IAG, Rallysport Direct, FastWRX.com, and others sell it.

If you get something like the prosport premium oil pressure gauge, the sender unit is a lot smaller and you don't need the remote line it just threads right onto the adapter and clears everything. http://prosportgauges.com/Blue-white-premium-oil-pressure-gauge-2.aspx

Wifey says no double marriage sorry.

Almost done with my gauges! Just gotta get the 40mm water temp done. The rest were wire loomed in today.

I was planning on putting it on the output side so you can read how hot the engine is running. So the top passenger side. I think the only reason you would want it on the drivers inlet side in so you could monitor your radiator/fans.

A smaller sender would be great but I have auto meter gauges mostly. I'm reusing the boost and oil press from my tiburon. Their oil press sender is hugeeee. I trust them, so I'll work with the adapters to get from bspt to ntp. Just had to add an AEM meth failsafe and pro sport dual air temp gauge. You can tell the quality is different from autometer. Price certainly reflects it though :(. I'm having this internal struggle to not have all these gauges all over the dash, but with all the cooling problems and auto cross, I think I will appreciate an early warning down the road.

I don't know if that will work with a VDO gage and I bought their sensors already anyway.

Coolant temp on the subaru is straight metric thread. I'll pull one tomorrow and measure it.

I would appreciate your doing that as I would like to use the OEM location for the water temp sensor.

This is mine.

12mm x 1.50 it is! I measured it at Fastenal. Here's the adapter to 1/8" NPT

http://www.ebay.com/itm/302050242163 This adapter won't accept VDO sensors! Of course, that's what I bought.

Prosport also sells just the plug alone without the remote. https://www.rallysportdirect.com/part/gauge-install-adapters/prs-psnut-prosport-oil-galley-plug-w-1-8in-npt-threaded-center

Note it comes with teflon tape already wrapped around it. I remove the tape and use Permatex High Temp Thread Sealant. In the oil galleries no sense taking a chance on getting bits of teflon tape jammed into critical areas.

The purpose of the remote line is two fold. The obvious that in some places there's not enough room to mount a pressure sender. But more importantly pressure senders wear out much more quickly when subjected to engine vibration. By using the remote you can mount the pressure sender on the firewall or fender and isolate it from vibration. Temp senders don't have that problem.

I swear there is a conspiracy out there with my name on it. All I'm trying to do is install replacement sensors. Water and oil temp and oil pressure. I bought adapters for the water and oil temp. The VDO sensors are too thick to pass through the adapter but, the good news is, it Will screw into the block. I think I'm going to put them in my vise and drill them out rather than send them back and get others.

And as previously mentioned, the oil pressure hose adapters won't screw into each other even though they are the same thread from the same company, nor accept the VDO pressure sensor which is the same thread. What would we do without China? So after two weeks of investigating and buying, I'm back to square one. It Never gets any easier.

News flash, the VDO oil pressure sensor which is 1/8" NPT won't screw into the block adapter's 1/8" NPT.

Now I'm finding out you can order VDO sensors in a variety of thread sizes including M12-1.5. Of course they only come in 300 degrees. I'm going to get drunk now!
