I am working on the drop butt mod this weekend. I have cut out the upper hoop bar and prepped the remaining frame. I have the body installed with the ride height set fairly close, but the engine is out as well as many other parts. I have read many posts about the mod and I think most people have dropped the rear about 1-1/2".
I am wondering how much space was between the body and the point on the frame where it turns down and how far did the rear quick jack bolts move down?
I plan to shave the rear so that there are no holes or bolts holding the body that are visible from the back.

I'm sure someone else more qualified will jump in here. I THINK the distance is the exact spread between upper and lower bolt-holes on the rear quick jacks. But don't cut until someone confirms.

Exatly what Dave said. On mine, I simply made up a plate from 2inch steel stock and about 5 inches long. I think the bolt holes are 2 inches apart, the plate has three holes in it. The top hole just gets a bolt through it into the original upper quick jack mount. The middle hole becomes the upper body quck jack mount, and the lower hole the lower mount. Note that I had to trim the spacers the 1/8th inch of the thickness of the steel stock.
As for space between the body and the frame at the corner, the way I completed mine the body rests on foam tape at that corner and not on bulb seal as it does forward and rear of that section.
Hope that helps

I did a dropped butt mod - the old bottom QJ hole became the new top QJ hole. I had to cut the frame otherwise there was interference with the body and the frame - my body currently rests on foam tape on the cut and welded part. Here's a photo...

Here's the finished pic - this wasn't what FordFun did - he didn't cut and weld his frame - I don't see how you can swap QJ holes without cutting the frame.

Also went with a clean rear end - no QJs, no nuthin'

Thanks guys. I have a piece of cardboard between the body and frame at this point, but just wasn't sure how close it would be. I am going to move on with it. Tack in the hoop and start building body mounts. I am thinking about glassed on plates with female threads and a bracket to go between the frame holes and the new body mounted brackets.
Howard - I think I have read a detailed write up that you did before and appreciate you posting here as well. From the looks of yours verses where I am, I think I will need to pull my suspension in a little in the rear. At current, I will definately fit the body on most any bump.

Howards write up helped me a great deal on the process. I had to remove that corner in order to get the body to come down enough, and of course do it with the sheet metal out so the only contact is the frame.

Good looking car Howard. What color is that?
