I built a MkIII many, many years ago and i'm now looking at jumping back in with the 289 kit. I probably would have built a 289 car last time around if it were available, so I'm very excited about the new offering from Factory Five.
Just a quick question while i'm in the early planning stages. I will likely go with a 306-347 small block, but I wanted to know if the Coyote 5.0 is even an option to install in the 289 car?

Im pretty sure there is no difference under the hood, it should fit.

The MK-4 and 289 share the same chassis and the foot box tins are the same so YES either engine will fit.
Also, the newer drivers foot box has been upgraded so there is a little more room for your feet and drivers side valve cover.
I'd love to have one, but have my hands full right now and my wallet is rather slim to boot.

I'd call FFR and ask before you go much further. Looking at their on-line 289 order form, I see no options offered for "Engine / Transmission mount package". The only option they list for the 289 is: 3083 – 302/351 Mounts (No Charge).
for the MK4 they offer:
13083 – 302/351 Mounts (No Charge)
12477 – 390/427/428 Mounts (No Charge)
15440 – 4/6L/5.0L Coyote Mounts (No Charge)
They are generally pretty flexible, but I would not assume anything.

I sent an email over to Factory Five Tech and I'll be sure to post the outcome once I hear back from them.

Follow it up with a call to FFR and ask for the tech department.

Hmmmm....a vintage looking 289 with the modern state of the art engine underneath. Sounds like a good plan to me. Just add stack injection from Jim Inglese and you will have an awesome machine

You'll need to do some fabrication to mate the Coyote headers to the FIA exhaust.

That is awesome! 2FAST4U, I remember your old big block roadster way back in ~2005 days when i was building my MkIII. Good to see you're still here!

Thanks Jeff, I didn't even think about the different side pipes.

Feel free to give us a ring Monday to run through some Powerplant options. Engine Factory has been a supporting vendor for 15+ years.

Wish that was in the budget for me.... future upgrade I think.
I will be using a rebuilt '65 289 in mine.

You could put an LS-3 with the front drive distributor from PACE Performance if want a lot of horsepower in an all aluminum package.
Just change the valve covers to something vintage looking or generic and most folks will wonder: What kind of Ford motor is that?
GMP-19301360-CHX - Pace LS3 550HP Carbureted with HEI & As Cast Valve Covers.
It will fit on the mounts with minimal modifications.

GoDadGo, that is cool and would really mess with the FordGearHeads. (and 550HP to boot!)

1. I'm not looking to mess with anybody, but the fact is simply that I really like these engines because they are basically a high tech old school pushrod based power plant.
2. Add in the fact that LS-3 can be purchased in multiple configurations, plus are rock solid, quite small, all aluminum, and have a great warranty is a big deal for me.
3. Being a banker you can understand why I love getting the Biggest Bang For The Buck Possible and building these cars can get quite pricey.
NOTE: My entire drive line cost less than $10,000.00 dollars, includes my Moser TSD-500 rear with brakes, so the only used part on MK-4 #8,515 is the engine block.

I'm a big fan of the LS motors, but I'm going to stick to Ford power for this project.

Good Luck On Your Project!
Also, it will go a lot easier if you stick to Factory Five's play book.
Trust me on this because this truth is "Self Evident" at Camp GoDadGo!

When I first heard they were making a 289 roadster, the first thing that came to my mind is to get a vintage 289 and rebuild it to Gt-40 specs then, tune it down for the street. I was 18 in 1969 when they won Lemans.

I never knew the AC Cobra's existed or who Carrol Shelby was until I saw "The Gumball Rally Movie" when it came out in 1976 when I was 13.
After that silly movie, I started digging into everything I could find about Shelby and his machines.
Never did I think I would have such a car so my gratitude goes out to Dave Smith following his dream so that we could fulfill ours
PS: Regardless of what is pushing down the road.

Not built to those specs, but it is a 1965 289 block. Mike Forte built this for me. His dyno numbers were just around 340. Can't wait to get this fired up...

Dan Golub of FFR told me that I'd need to do a little fabrication for the manifold-to-exhaust, so when the time comes I'll head to my local performance muffler shop where they can build systems from scratch. Can't wait ti hear my 4.6 in the 289! Wonder why they don't offer it from FFR? Maybe the 289 has very few takers???
Cheers,
Jonathan

That's a nice looking engine! Wish I had it in the budget to go with that intake. Going to start saving and in a couple years switch over (hopefully). Love the valve covers, assuming you fabbed those yourself?

I think Dave Smith said mine was like in the #15-20 range, so yeah, limited numbers. I picked mine up in March. You may find some MkIV parts in your kit instead of 289 specific parts. Happened on mine. FF is great about getting parts out quickly. One tip.... Before you mount the passenger floor, mock up the roll bar and cut the slot for the floor mount. I didn't until after the floor was riveted and it was a pain.

Thanks. Expensive engine at $13K. And yEs, I did fab the covers myself.
