View Full Version : Emergency brake cable doesn't seem to fit the caliper

My build has the solid axle and FFR Mustang performance rear brake option. My Ebrake cables were backordered for a long time and I finally got them last month. I went to install them yesterday and they don't seem to fit into the caliper. The end that I believe is meant for the caliper has these metal retainer clips on it that I have not seen in any other pictures before (certainly not in the manual).

Does this look like the correct part? It seems like I can either remove the retainer clip to make it fit or slightly enlarge the cable opening in the caliper with a round file.
Your suggestions or comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
John S.

On mine that end went in the frame mount and other end went to caliper. I have IRS and Wilwood upgrade so it may be totally different.

That is the chassis end.

Jeff and Wareaglescott,
Thanks for the replies. Yes, that end fit the chassis mount just fine. Problem is (hope you are listening FFR), the other cable end doesn't fit into the passage in the caliper. Probably a combination of the caliper manufacturer and/or the cable manufacturer machining the parts slightly out of spec. Hmm, round file or numbered drill bit?

Are you trying to put the cable directly to the caliper or are you using the angled bracket the cable goes into and then you attach that to the caliper?

Jeff,
I'm trying to put the silver metal end of the cable outer sheath into the cast mounting boss on the caliper and then attach the cylindrical cable end into the hooked spring loaded bracket.
The hole in the casting is smaller than the diameter of the metal end of the cable sheath.

On 33 with IRS and wilwood upgrade had to take a rat teal file and work hole in bracket out for cable to fit.

My ebrake cables are installed. I measured the caliper opening and the cable end. The cable end was about 0.004" over. I used some emery cloth wrapped around a rat tail file and worked the hole in the caliper. It ended up a tight friction fit that needed just a light tap with the end of a punch to seat the cable. This was with the FFR rear brake kit, not Wilwood so I think the cable is just slightly out of spec. Thanks for the help. On to trunk sheet metal.
