Okay, I need advice on what people are doing about the cap oxidizing?

I just hit it with Mother's every once in a while. If you live near a salty coast, the leading edges really seem to take a beating though. I just screw it off the base and polish it while I watch the tube!

On a related note, is there a replacement available for the 'regular' cap that sits inside the leMans? Think I left mine during a fill-up on my last road trip.

Stant makes them. Should be able to get one at most parts places.

A good wax should keep the LeMan's filler looking good for quite awhile.

I live a t the beach and it gets crusty pretty quickly. I use Mother's and it cleans right up.

Thanks for the reminder, I have to wash my car! I went for a ride down the coast and the car has a nice salty layer of sea mist. I could hardly see out of the windshield at the end of the day.

Anyone considered powder coating it chrome/silver?

Mother's what? Is it a specific aluminum polish?

Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish.

I don't think that would look right, and would probably end up chipping.

I use Flitz Metal Polish and a little elbow-grease on a clean rag and it shines like Polished!
It works great on a dulled Le Mans Cap, not sure about severe oxidizing.

I've also used Purple Polish, but prefer the Flitz.

You're right, FFR tech responded that the part number is Stant 10832, for those who need it.

I think the number for the one I'm using is Stant 41003. This one allows you stick the nozzle right in the cap. You do not have to remove the cap and the hole is the correct size for the nozzle.
