Hello, This is my first time on the Forum. First, Thank you everyone who I met and welcomed me at the Huntington Beach show. It was great. I am still in the process of licensing my car. It's going to the BAR monday. Getting mixed messages re: smog stuff.
My question though is about insurance. Can you give advice how to insure it. Hagerty is who I am looking at, but not sure how to list as: make/model/type. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Kim

Mine is covered by State Farm with my other two daily drivers. It is listed on the Declaration Page as a 2012 (build date of the kit) Shelby Cobra. With a declared value and an agreed mileage restriction, the rate is very reasonable. In addition, there is no restriction on who can drive the car and I can participate in HPDE at the track.
If yours is going to be a Road&Track type of car then you might want to check with your current auto insurance carrier to see what they can offer. If yours is a show car with weekend excursions and a lot of garage time, you might want to go with a classic car type insurance company for better rates.

Check out Midwest Classic Insurance. They are a sponsor on this site and Robin is great to work with. I found them to have a good price and less restrictive usage rules. Some insurance plans will limit where and when you can drive you car by restricting you to travel to and from car shows and applying low annual mile limits.

This is the kind of information I look for. This forum is awesome for pre-planners like me. I'm putting this info in my back pocket for when I need it. Thanks JIMOCO.

I'm with MidWest also and recommend them - Robbin is great to deal with and insures many on the forum. Be very wary when comparing quotes with regard to the difference in 'agreed' and 'declared' value - it will make a big difference in the event of a claim.

Robbin was extremely patient with me as I went through getting the paper work setup with Midwest. Also, I insured it while I'm building it so that it would be covered from theft or natural disaster (most homeowners won't cover car parts). As a kit in progress, it's still insured basically the same as a full car, which has me covered for when I'm ready to do any short jogs around the block during go-kart stage.

First, check with your daily driver insurer THEN move on to the others, if they cannot help.

All my DD cars have always been with State Farm . . . The Cobra is no exception. Insured as a 2002/1965 Replica with an "agreed" value, no [real] mileage restrictions but I only put about 2K per year anyway. Price is very reasonable considering that I'm driving a [legal] race car on the street.
