I have the kirkey high back seats for my kit. Speaking with my body guy I have an option to have the doors and body opening reworked to provide more shoulder room. Here are two pictures comparing what they do. The rework the top of the door and where it meet the body at the front and rear. Quite a lot of work and time involved in this.

Standard:

Their modification - note the amount of extra room between the steering wheel and door

I am 6'3" and about 210 so I am trying to make as much room as I can. That is the main reason I ended up with the high back Kirkey seats because they provide the most leg room. I like the room this mod would provide but the con is it is quite expensive. In fact about 25% additional to the total cost of the paint/body work per door. I am considering doing the drivers door only because both sides would just be to expensive.

A few questions:

1. Does anyone have a picture of the high back Kirkey installed they could post? I would primarily like to be able to see the area where the upper side bolster is near the door and how tight that is?

2. For tall guys how much value would you place on this added room along the side? I am thinking leg room is going to be the main point of discomfort and having extra shoulder room would not be that huge of benefit if the time I was willing to spend in the seat was still limited by my leg discomfort.

3. How noticeable do you think only doing one side would be? Obviously if you knew and were looking for it the lack of symmetry would stand out.

Thanks for the input.

I'm 6-2" and 240, the standard door cap only bothers me when I have a heavy jacket on and keep my arm off the door. But my arm is pretty much always sitting there when I'm cruising. I honestly never think about it!

Thanks. I was thinking I would rest my arm on the outside while driving also so the added expense may not be worth it. I am wondering about how the high back seat fits in around the door. Still searching for a picture of that.

Here is the car I built for my buddy Aaron who is about your size. The photo isn't really focused on the seats but you'll get the idea (driver's side fit's exactly the same). He's kind of wide through the hips and wasn't comfortable in the 15" or 16" Kirkeys so opted for the big 17" versions.

The front of the seats are tipped up about 2" with the rears on the floor. I've done others with 15" Seats and they are pretty much the same as far as where the body relates to the shoulder area (understand now why I told ya' to wait until the body is on to mount them ;)).

Cheers,
Jeff

Scott-

I don't think it is worth the extra cost myself. It's not my car -- as you know!! However, I would spend the money somewhere else, where it will be more impactful. I am just not sure you will notice a significant difference.

Good luck either way.

Steve
