Dear all, I took off the speed sensor to paint my transmission. I noticed there was a orange (now dry) sort of thread sealant. I went to buy some more but the local pep boys only had one, but it said not for PVC. Since the sensor is plastic, but not sure if the plastic make up has PVC in it. I even called the Subaru dealership, but they had no idea. They told me of they were changing out the part it would come with it in the new part.Does anyone know what to use?

I have found this to be the best thread sealant ever, for anything and everything. Air, fuel, oil, transmission fluid, coolant, you name it. I would let it cure 8 hours. Any excess on the outside stays wet and can be wiped away.

Great, thanks for the super quick reply
Agree with Hindsight, Loctite PST (pipe sealant with Teflon) is the best sealant. Been using it for more than thirty years and the stuff works great. Many times Teflon tape will get into the interior of the piping and clog small ports. PST won't. The product comes in a tube as a soft paste that you squeeze to apply on the threads or in a semi-solid form in a cylindrical tube like a large chap-stick that is not as messy to work with.

Shouldn't need thread sealant unless you plan on drowning your car. The trans has a seal on the shaft. Sealant is just to keep water out of the top during off road situations or water fjords.
